Upon listening to Margaret Sohn’s first album under the Miss Grit alias, we had to check that it was indeed this young, New York-based Korean-American’s name on the cover, and not Annie Clark’s St. Vincent alias. The resemblance with the latter’s first albums (those guitars on ‘Like You’ and the title track ‘Follow the Cyborg’) jumps right out, but Miss Grit quickly distinguishes herself from her illustrious elder by opting for a more fictional approach—a Sci-Fi one, even.

Starting from how this question is commonly answered by the practice of interpretation in Western notated art music, this book proposes a move beyond commonly accepted codes, conventions and territories of music performance.
