Joel Schumacher's 1987 film The Lost Boys capitalized on a temporary lull in horror movies in the late '80s and created a heavily music-video-influenced vampire homage with enough campy humor, heavy metal costumes, and hunky stars to put a fresh spin on the genre. An amusing piece of eye candy spiked by a few creepy moments, the movie, in typical '80s style, relies heavily on the soundtrack to bolster its emotional core. The soundtrack, like the film, works great on the surface – but don't go much deeper. A mix of covers and bombastic '80s pop originals, the songs work best when they concentrate on the horror factor. Echo & the Bunnymen turn in an excellent cover of the Doors' "People Are Strange" that has a bouncier, more melodic touch than the original. Jimmy Barnes and INXS' "Good Times" is an energetic rocker used to personify the party-hardy SoCal atmosphere of the film. The strongest song is the movie's theme, "Cry Little Sister," a goth-influenced midtempo ballad.

One of the great bands of the rock & roll era, the Kinks pioneered hard rock with such wild early ravers as "You Really Got Me" and "All Day and All of the Night," singles that inspired such peers as the Who and David Bowie while also pointing the way forward for punk and metal. That turned out to be the first act in a career that ran into the 1990s, making them the only British Invasion band outside of the Rolling Stones to last that long. Where the Stones always occupied center stage, the Kinks operated on the margins, both by accident and design.

Limited to 500 copies. In the late 80s, King's X had just launched their now-iconic Sam Taylor-produced debut album Out of the Silent Planet (1988), ushering in what would soon become known as the “Houston sound.” This sound was a unique blend of progressive metal, groove, rock, and rich harmonies. Around the same time, another band began making waves: The Awful Truth. They had recorded their debut album for mainstream Metal Blade Records but sadly broke up before it even came out. By the time the album was released in 1989, two-thirds of The Awful Truth had formed a new band with two other members, the now-legendary Galactic Cowboys, further defining that groovy-metallic Houston Sound. Although signed to the infamous Metal Blade Records (known for releasing albums by Slayer, Fates Warning, Voivod, etc.), The Awful Truth's eponymous album featured poetic lyrics expressing a sincere faith. A key example is “Ghost of Heaven”:

Paradise Lost's career trajectory comes virtually full circle on 2009's Faith Divides Us - Death Unites Us, an album that sees the British metal veterans resuming virtually the exact same accessible goth doom style that characterized their most commercially and critically successful albums, in essence making it sound like the would-be successor to 1995's Draconian Times.

In 2014, Primalfrost released their debut album. An album that was well received and showed serious promise for future releases. Main composer and Canadian mastermind Dean Paul Arnold was only seventeen years old at the time. That’s an impressive feat for such a young musician considering the quality of that album. Now seven years later, Primalfrost is finally releasing a new album…

Medusa is the forthcoming fifteenth studio album from Yorkshire doom metal band Paradise Lost. Guitarist Greg Mackintosh said of the record, “The new album will be slower, sludgier and more doom filled than ever before.” He adds that it will be “eight riff laden monster tracks of sheer Northern misery.” It will be the first album with new drummer Waltteri Väyrynen, who took over from Adrian Erlandsson after the release of 'The Plague Within' in 2015. In support of the albums release, the band announced plans for a European tour in late 2017, with support from Pallbearer and Sinistro.
