Label: Warner | Year: 2006 | Genre: Rock/Pop | MP3 | 192 kBit/s | 93 MB

2006 collection by one of the finest, and often most underrated, vocalists of the Rock/Pop era. Darin originally belted out some great Rock 'N Roll tunes ('Splish Splash') but is best known for his musical reincarnation as a crooner ('Mack The Knife', 'It Had To Be You') as well as his brief foray into the burgeoning Folk scene of the late '60s ('If I Were A Carpenter'). 24 tracks total including the tracks previously mentioned as well as other classics like 'Beyond The Sea' and 'Dream Lover'. This selftitled album was originally released on Atlantic Records in September 1958, and was reissued on CD in 1994. Ahmet Ertegun, an Atlantic legend, produced it and Darin co-wrote seven of the 12 songs. The most commercial songs are "I Found a Million Dollar Baby (In a Five and Ten Cent Store)" and his hit "Splish Splash".

Label: Motown Records | Tracks: 20 | Rls.date: 1974/2017

Motown released Darin 1936-1973 two months after the future Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's death in December of 1973. The ten-track LP (and second on Motown) contains some rare Bobby Darin material. Because of its purpose (grieving), this is one of the few depressing Bobby Darin records, lacking the hopeful romance and joyful concepts that characterized his other releases. Darin 1936-1973 also takes on a haunting, biographical depth, beginning with the heartbreaking "I Won't Last a Day Without You."

Bobby Darin (May 14, 1936 – December 20, 1973), born Walden Robert Cassotto, was an American singer, actor and accomplished musician. Darin performed in a range of music genres, including pop, rock, jazz, folk and country. This two-fer from EMI features a pair of out of print Bobby Darin LPs: "Oh! Look at Me Now" and "From Hello Dolly to Goodbye Charlie". Originally issued on Capitol Records in 1962 and 1964, respectively, these 23 traditional pop songs include "Blue Skies", "My Buddy", "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square", and "Call Me Irresponsible". This is a nice sampler of familiar items that should satisfy the needs of casual fans.

A pretty terrific collection of Bobby Darin hits with an emphasis on the pop/rock corner of his versatile career. By no means definitive it nonetheless includes such treasures as "Dream Lover," "Things," and the best available version of Darin's self-penned "Simple Song of Freedom," a "protest" song that ironically became the only hit single for folk singer Tim Hardin, the author of "If I Were A Carpenter," Darin's last major hit single which is also included here.

This 2CD set anthologises Bobby Darin's singles releases between 1956-1962, and includes two rare-as-hens-teeth promo's, and a couple of equally rare UK-only B-sides. Darin was by far the classiest, most versatile singer of his era, and carved out parallel careers as an R&R singer, a teen idol and an interpreter/updater of show tunes, and what is now referred to as The Great American Songbook. 30 of the titles on this 64-track compilation were major US and/or UK chart records.

There's been considerable discussion about whether Bobby Darin should be classified as a rock & roll singer, a Vegas hipster cat, an interpreter of popular standards, or even a folk-rocker. He was all of these and none of these. Throughout his career he made a point of not becoming committed to any one style at the exclusion of others; at the height of his nightclub fame he incorporated a folk set into his act.
