Grigorovich’s ballet is an exceptional phenomenon, a pointer for ballet in how to portray the contemporary age. The result is all the more brilliant in that in his treatment of this most complex material, the choreographer boldly plumbs for what is most difficult. The Golden Age depicts the when the remains of the old world, which had hidden, crawled out into the open and acted with refined cunning. For the first time in ballet, he presents the detective genre: pursuits, attacks and all.

Ace celebrate the 90th birthday of the Poet Laureate of Rock n Roll with a well-deserved addition to their songwriter series. Rock And Roll Music! focuses on the most revered songs from Chuck Berry's classic first decade as a writer (1954-64) and shows just how adaptable his words and music are, in selections that embrace hillbilly and country, British beat, R&B, reggae, skiffle and rock n roll. Chuck's eternal anthems to the American way of life have stood the test of time perhaps better than any other songwriter of his generation, and it's hardly surprising they have been revived so frequently down the years. Here are 24 of the best and most diverse reinterpretations almost all of them appearing on Ace CD for the first time.

The Blue Hearts invite you to the their late night back street bar, playing music full of country music sentiments and the emotions of the blues. Stare into a half empty glass of bourbon, listening to songs drenched in sorrow and regret, whilst demon lyrics lap against the lost shore of a deserted isle. Steel arrows pierce the remains of broken hearts once made for love and hope. A pitiless chasm beckons where the lessons of life are laid bare, each song hammering closed the doors of escape. A violin soothes while guitars wreck the journey of ambitious souls as another life draws to a close. Listen with care.

In Search of the Lost Chord is the album on which the Moody Blues discovered drugs and mysticism as a basis for songwriting and came up with a compelling psychedelic creation, filled with songs about Timothy Leary and the astral plane and other psychedelic-era concerns…

Rock & Roll / Rhythm & Blues

It's no secret that Chuck Berry's songs are rock & roll standards, covered by more musicians than can be counted. That poses something of a problem for Ace's Rock & Roll Music! The Songs of Chuck Berry, a 2017 entry in their ongoing Songbook series. Where other collections in this line provide some kind of revelation about the composer, these songs are so well-known through their constant covers that having 24 songs collected on one disc doesn't stand as a testament to the composer; anybody paying attention to rock & roll music knows that Chuck Berry was a formidable writer.

Four-CD, 80-song box set of Clark's '60s material contains all of her big U.S. and U.K. hits, numerous singles that were only hits in other countries (usually France), and a bunch of interesting covers, B-sides, and LP tracks, some quite rare. If you're enough of a fan to want more than what you'll find on the usual thorough hits anthology, but not enough of a fan to want everything she ever did, this is perfect. It's got all of the classics, serviceable (although not terribly extensive) liner notes, and a host of interesting items that aren't well-known.

The Rising Storm were six guys attending Phillips Academy, a prep school in Andover, MA, between 1964 and 1967. Like lots of high school kids of the era, they figured playing in a rock & roll band would be good fun (and help them meet girls), so they started rocking school dances and mixers, and near the end of their run (which coincided with graduation), they decided to document their musical career by making an album. The resulting LP, Calm Before…, became a sacred text among New England garage rock collectors years later, and it's not hard to see why.

When dissected carefully, The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking becomes a fascinating conceptual voyage into the workings of the human psyche. As an abstract peering into the intricate functions of the subconscious, Waters' first solo album involves numerous dream sequences that both figuratively and symbolically unravel his struggle with marriage, fidelity, commitment, and age at the height of a midlife crisis…

M.P.D. Limited had one of the most meteoric rises in the history of Australian rock and pop. Formed from the remains of Melbourne Shadows-style instrumental band The Phantoms, M.P.D. (Mike, Pete and Danny) were supporting UK visitors The Dave Clark Five on their 1965 Australian tour just three weeks after forming. In July 1965 the group signed to the Go!! label and their debut single, a version of Johnny Burnette‘s Little Boy Sad, immediately hit the #1 spot in Melbourne when it was released in August. It also peaked at #5 in Sydney. The band appeared on television shows like The Go!! Show and Saturday Date and undertook their own national tour.
