John Cale's great credit, both inside and outside The Velvet Underground, was to have found the inoculation dosage that would addict the music industry to sound without alienating one world from the other. But outside the "official" VU there was also an uncut version of the virus, incubated behind the slum walls of the 1960s Lower East Side, and maintained live in the liquid nitrogen of these insolently recorded reel-to-reel audiotapes, recorded and produced by Tony Conrad and now available in this massive Table Of The Elements 3xCD boxed set.
Excellent addition to any prog rock music collection.
There is something about the music on Malicorne's album `Le Bestiaire' (roughly translated to `The Animals') that transports me to another space and time.
Essential: a masterpiece of progressive rock music
Malicorne is my favourite folk collective and Almanach is their best album. It is a concept album from 1976 where each of the 12 songs represents a month of the year. Hence 'Almanach' which means calendar in English. Track 13 was not on the original album.
A French cross between GRYPHON and STEELEYE SPAN. The songs are mostly old French traditional songs. The head of Malicorne is singer-guitarist-composer Gabriel Yacoub.
Excellent addition to any prog rock music collection.
Gabriel Yacoub began his musical career as a guitarist and backing vocalist for Alan Stivell before forming his own band Malicorne.
Excellent addition to any prog rock music collection.
Formed in 1970, it was only in 1974 that French band Mona Lisa could perpetrate their debut album and start to bring their contribution to their country's progressive rock arena and deliver one of the most accomplished expressions of theater rock.
