French guitarist/producer U-Nam is again standing tall and looming large on the smooth jazz scene with another creative gem called C’est Le Funk. In addition to dazzling us with his graceful and funky instrumental work (and one funky delivery with vocals from Tim “TiO” Owens), the album is loaded with strong production and presence. Wasting no time putting the groove into high gear from the start, the guitarist leads off with a driving track called “Smoovin’,” continues plowing ahead with the party groover “Something’s Up” and strutting right through the super-funky, hook-rich title track which features Nivo Deux (Nivo Deux is actually a project organized by U-Nam and wife Shannon Kennedy focusing on the incorporation of 80’s Pop, Smooth Jazz, and Electro-Funk).

The Past Builds The Future is the first album by U-Nam. Accomplished producer, composer and guitarist U-Nam is best known for his #1 hit “Street Life” on the US Billboard charts in 2007. But it isn’t just in Smooth Jazz that he has proven himself as a force to be reckoned with, he is also well-known as a respected songwriter and producer in France in the Pop and R&B genres having worked with artists such as Barry White, Kool & the Gang, Billy Paul, French Pop-Idol, MC Solaar and more. U-Nam has had the opportunity to perform in Russia, Dubai, Malaysia, and tour the US and Europe as part of major festivals.

The third and final record by the progressive rock trio U.K. was recorded during a 1979 concert in Japan, although it was not released until after the group disbanded; by this time the group featured bassist and lead vocalist John Wetton with ex-Zappa sidemen Eddie Jobson (keyboards and electric violin) and drummer Terry Bozzio. "Night After Night" serves a driving opener, followed by "Rendezvous 6:02," primarily a feature for Jobson's keyboard wizardry. The instrumental "Alaska" is a bit bombastic on the scale of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, though the hard-rocking "In the Dead of Night" makes up for it. Jobson switches to violin for the high-energy closer, "Caesar's Palace Blues" (which is not actually a blues). This is easily the best of U.K.'s rather small discography…

When Steve Marriott left the Small Faces (Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Class of 2012) to launch a new band in 1968, expectations were high. Marriott teamed with 18-year-old guitarist Peter Frampton, already a U.K. star through his work with The Herd, along with bassist Greg Ridley from Spooky Tooth, and 17-year-old drummer Jerry Shirley, who Steve Marriott had used as a session player for Andrew Loog Oldham s Immediate Record Label.
