浮世击 Yellow

In 1978, Herbie Mann came out with two very different LPs. The more improvisatory Brazil: Once Again fulfilled his need to record a serious Brazilian jazz-pop album, while Super Mann is a commercial disco effort that finds Patrick Adams doing most of the producing. The two LPs aren't anything alike – while the instrumental Brazil: Once Again makes extensive use of the flutist's jazz chops, Mann doesn't do any improvising on Super Mann. This album isn't about his virtuosity as a soloist – it's all about the beat and the groove. So naturally, Super Mann was trashed in the jazz press by critics who made the mistake of judging it by jazz standards and wouldn't have known a good disco record from a bad one.

In May of 2015, violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter gave a truly unique concert: rather than standing on stage in one of the world’s renowned well-tempered grand concert halls, she spent two evenings playing in a tiny graffiti-scrawled nightclub in Berlin. Recorded in front of a standing-room only audience, this new release includes popular works by Bach, Copland, Gershwin, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi and many more. Mutter is joined by Mahan Esfahani, Lambert Orkis and the Mutter Virtuosi.

It’s really not easy to define “Grey, White, Silver, Yellow, and Gold” as a Prog Metal album. From where I’m standing the best Prog Metal albums are the ones which showcase lots of influences. Most importantly, all the influences from the the mind blowing music from the 1970s. “Grey, White, Silver, Yellow, and Gold” has lots of it. A great Prog Metal album is an album that addresses right to Emerson, Lake, and Palmer and then to Iron Maiden or Judas Priest. This album made me feel this way.
