The present box is the second of five. Together it's 50 CDs of music by Klaus Schulze. It includes the former sets Silver Edition (10 CDs), Historic Edition (10 CDs), Jubilee Edition (25 CDs), and five new albums made especially as bonus for The Ultimate Edition. This second set (Historic Edition) was released on the 17th of March 1995. It contained unreleased archival recordings.

Eigentlich müsste diese CD heißen: „The Soul of Klaus Lage“. Nach äußerst gelungen Ausflügen in Bigband-Swing und Jazz legt der vielseitige Musiker mit „Je wahrer die Liebe“ ein neues Album vor, das unter die Haut geht. Soul: dass Klaus Lage auch hier musikalisch zu Hause ist und in jeder Hinsicht überzeugen kann, überrascht natürlich nicht. Dennoch ist der Sound dieser Platte erstaunlich; man fühlt sich bisweilen zurückversetzt in das Detroit der früher 1960er, als im legendären Snakepit, einem kleinen Kellerstudio der Autostadt, eine Handvoll Musiker genau diesen Sound entwickelte und damit die musikalische Landschaft komplett umkrempelte.

"When I started reimagining the tunes I had composed for Trio or Quartet settings for a larger ensemble, I realised this would inevitably limit the improvisational freedom of each player. I also thought that abandoning the idea for this reason would be like comparing apples and oranges–the small ensemble, with its intimacy and full improvisational freedom, and the large jazz ensemble, with its rich palette of colours, interwoven melodies, and dynamic grandeur, are simply two distinct ways to express music, like changing the dress for a different occasion. And so, I began to sew a new wardrobe for the Songs and Dances on this recording.

Klaus Schulze, one of the most illustrious exponents of the kraut-electronic musical current, was born on the 4th of August 1947, right in Berlin, the heart of the entire action. He has also used the alias Richard Wahnfried. He was briefly a member of the electronic band Tangerine Dream as well as cofounding Ash Ra Tempel before a pioneering and prolific solo career of 40+ albums (totalling 110+ CDs) in 30+ years…
