"M" entbindet Bond vom Auftrag Ernst Stavro Blofeld zur Strecke zu bringen und schickt ihn nach Portugal auf Urlaub. Dort lernt er die Comtesse Teresa di Vincenzo, kurz Tracy, kennen und lieben. Ihr Vater Marc Ange Draco, Chef des Verbrechersyndikats Union Corse, sieht in Bond den idealen Schwiegersohn. 007 ist nur bereit, wenn ihm die Mafia bei der Suche nach Blofeld hilft. Dieser sitzt unter dem Pseudonym "Graf Balthasar de Bleuchamp " in seinem Hauptquartier in den Schweizer Alpen. Mit einem Virus will er die gesamte menschliche Rasse unfruchtbar machen und somit ausrotten. 007 kann sich als Heraldiker Sir Hilary Bray in die Alpenfestung einschleichen und diese in weiterer Folge zerstören.
Tracy und Bond heiraten tatsächlich. Bei einem Mordanschlag, hinter dem der flüchtige Blofeld steht und der eigentlich Bond gilt, wird Tracy getötet.
