I don't remember where I picked up this hard to find CD, it might have been in Cambridge, MA. I don't know much about the release other than it contains the first two volumes of a 3 LP box set of the same name. Some sources I have seen indicate that it is a bootleg. The tracks are a mix of live BBC recordings, unreleased acetates, and rare versions of British sixties psychedelic classics. Many of the tracks have now resurfaced as part of recent artist-centred compilations but at the time I had heard very few of these tracks. The liner notes are sparse and simply provide a few words about the origin of each track, Pink Floyd on the front cover and Eddie Phillips of the Creation on the back cover. The sound is so-so but listenable considering the varied sources. A good cross-section of psych acts of the period. Originally released in 1990 as a box of 7" singles, this CD features rare singles; radio sessions and tracks previously officially unreleased.
Released in 1968, The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees featured a trio of Top 40 hits, "Tapioca Tundra," the group's sixth million-selling single "Valleri" and the #1 "Daydream Believer." The set includes mono and stereo mixes of the original album on individual discs, each expanded with rare and unreleased tracks…
A producer, composer and keyboardist from London, Paul Hardcastle debuted as a solo artist in 1984 and scored the following year with "19," an electro-oriented record featuring news reports and other sources on Vietnam. It became a major hit in his native country; in the U.S., it topped Billboard's club chart. Later, he produced and did remixes for artists such as Ian Dury and Phil Lynott. He continued to sell well in the specialty dance market and occasionally released records as part of the duo Kiss the Sky (with Jaki Graham) while also operating under names like the Def Boys, Beeps International, and Jazzmasters. Zero One (1985), Jazzmasters II (1994), and Hardcastle 2 (1996) were among his most popular releases through the '90s…
'Visions' is a new collaborative album from BADBADNOTGOOD co-founders, Matthew Tavares and Leland Whitty. The Grammy Award winning, multi-platinum producers have been performing and writing music together for 10 years. They have achieved international acclaim with BADBADNOTGOOD and Tavares' recent solo single 'Self-Portrait' has been championed by tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson and Benji B. 'Visions' is the latest upshot of their incredibly fruitful partnership.
This was the first compilation in the CD era to offer unreleased material. It contains three unreleased tracks, including Henry and the H-Bomb (an unfinished demo), Lounge Lizard (the only MTH track recorded start-to-finish with Mick Ronson), and Through The Looking Glass (a 'special' version with profanity prepared as a joke for CBS executives). American Pie is not as interesting as it might appear - it is just a live recording of one verse, which was used as an intro to Golden Age of Rock 'n' Roll.
