Zenyatta Mondatta, The Police’s third studio album, released in October 1980, was written during the group’s second tour and recorded in four weeks. The band members have often expressed disappointment over the album, going so far as to re-record two songs during a brief, unsuccessful reunion in 1986. The Police embarked on a tour of the world the day of the album's completion, beginning in Belgium and finishing in Australia. One of the very finest shows on the tour took place on the final leg, and indeed two days before the whole thing concluded. Performing in Melbourne, Australia, on February 22nd 1981, for a concert which was recorded for live FM Radio Broadcast, The Police would only play two more shows after this date, also both in Australia. The Melbourne gig was something of a (premature, perhaps) tour finale, and indeed something of a party atmosphere prevailed. Previously unavailable, this staggering show is now released in its entirety on this new CD title.

The Herald label was founded in 1950 by Fred Mendelsohn, formerly with Savoy, and he was soon joined by Al Silver, who owned the pressing plant that made the label’s records. Silver had an ear for R&B and doowop, and built Herald into a creative hub for R&B recording and most particularly becoming renowned for its output of doowop recordings by a string of different groups during the late ‘50s and into the 1960s.

Singer-songwriter, born April 23, 1936, Vernon, Texas, USA; died December 7, 1988 outside Nashville, Tennessee, USA. One of the few American artists to score significant British success during the "beat boom" of 1963-5, he made a comeback with the Traveling Wilburys shortly before his death at the age of 52.Inducted into Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 (Performer).

Seven-times Grammy winner GLADYS KNIGHT, aka 'The Empress Of Soul', has long established herself at top table, having carved out a swathe of hit records with her backing group THE PIPS, who included her brother Merald 'Bubba' Knight Jr. and her cousins, William Guest and Edward Patten. But although they are perhaps best remembered for their mid-60s/early-90s hits, they'd actually gotten started in the very late 50s. Running in chronological order, it starts with the self released ‘The Murder Of Liddle Towers’ and is followed by the major label debut of ‘I’m An Upstart’ which hit No.31 in the UK charts. ‘Teenage Warning’ then hit No.29 and saw the band in the nation’s living rooms via their appearance on Top Of The Pops. A hat-trick of hits was completed when ‘Never ‘Ad Nothin’ hit No.52 in late 1979.
