1812 cd

This cd contains a rendition of a live concert given november of last year (2012) to commemorate the 200 year anniversary of the "Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde" in Vienna. Mr. Harnoncourt conducts, according to the textbook and some online research that I did, a massively expanded Concentus Musicus Wien, the Singverein der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna and soloists Roberta Invernizzi, Werner Gura and Gerald Finley.

A Time of Revelation is a four-disc box set spanning Uriah Heep's entire career. The bulk of the set draws from the Heep's '70s heyday, including album tracks, live cuts, and previously unavailable-on-disc rarities. For the die-hard collector, the set is a must-have for its obscure items. While the set may be too much for casual fans, it does a good job of rounding up the highlights, so any casual listener wanting a comprehensive collection should turn here.

THE ANALOGUE YEARS presents a 50-Album overview across 54 CDs, in original jackets, of the celebrated international recordings that emerged from the London-based record label in that pre-digital era.

This is the fifth disc in a series that sets Beethoven’s violin sonatas in their social and musical context. Beethoven’s three Sonatas Op 12, mark the beginning of an extraordinary group of works which would climax with the Op 96 Sonata which he completed at the end of 1812. Beethoven and Romberg shared a history as string players. In 1790, Romberg joined Beethoven in the electoral court orchestra in Bonn, led by Beethoven’s erstwhile violin teacher, Franz Anton Ries. This laid the foundations for Beethoven when he instituted his team of string players in Vienna in the years following his arrival there in 1792.

Patton/Tora! Tora! Tora! features some of the modern era's finest orchestral performances. Indeed, The General's March From Patton, a medley of the most dramatic cues from the soundtrack (and not on this CD), is a stirring piece that ranks with the 1812 Overture (by Tchaikovsky) and Fireworks Music (by Handel) as a power classic. The CD does feature all of the elements of the medley along with some cues and incidental music that were not used in the score. As a bonus, this disc also features some of the music from Tora! Tora! Tora!. While neither soundtrack is presented in its entirety, the music is ample evidence of Jerry Goldsmith's reputation as one of Hollywood's film music composers. This CD is an excellent addition to any orchestral collection – classical and/or contemporary.
