To mark Crises' 30th anniversary, Mike Oldfield's eighth studio album appears as a 3CD + 2DVD Box Set Edition comprising the 13-track digitally remastered CD album which includes eight bonus tracks and a 12-track 'Crisis Tour' double CD recorded live at Wembley Arena on 22nd July 1983.
Following a long-established production pattern, Mike Oldfield assembled some relatively simple pop- and rock-flavored numbers following one long introductory piece on his 1983 Disky release, Crisis. The 20-minute opening title-track is a quintessential Oldfield texture study that consists of sparkling synth washes with edgier material weaving in and out. A fine setup, this track cleanses the aural pallet, preparing the listener nicely for the tunes that follow. Yes fans who can adjust to the sugary highlight "In High Places" will enjoy Jon Anderson's springy vocal work on the track…

In 1983, Mike Oldfield released one of his most commercially successful albums, "Crises", which featured the huge hit single 'Moonlight Shadow' and featured guest vocal appearances from Maggie Reilly, Jon Anderson and Roger Chapman. Of all the albums he has recorded, "Crises" underlined Mike Oldfield's skill as a writer of fine songs as well as a gifted creator of sublime instrumental music. Like the moon that shines out from the Terry Ilott painting gracing it's cover, the music of Crises continues to shine magically thirty years on from it's release.

Esoteric Recordings is pleased to announce the release of a remastered clamshell boxed set anthology by the legendary musician Snowy White. Lucky Star - Anthology 1983-1994 gathers together all of his solo albums and two albums recorded under the guise of Snowy White's Blues Agency.
After some years working as a much in demand guitarist for artists as diverse as Al Stewart, Pink Floyd and Thin Lizzy, Snowy White branched out as a solo artist with the release of his first solo album White Flames in 1983. The album spawned a major hit single in 'Bird Of Paradise' early the following year and subsequently enjoyed chart success. This was followed in the 1980s by two more fine albums; Snowy White and That Certain Thing. At the end of the decade White formed the band Snowy White's Blues Agency and the group recorded the albums Change My Life and Open For Business in quick succession…

Without doubt, the recordings of Tangerine Dream have made the greatest impact on the widest variety of instrumental music during the 1980s and '90s, ranging from the most atmospheric new age and space music to the harshest abrasions of electronic dance. Founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese in Berlin, the group has progressed through a full three dozen lineups (Froese being the only continuous member with staying power) and four distinct stages of development: the experimentalist minimalism of the late '60s and early '70s; stark sequencer trance during the mid- to late '70s, the group's most influential period; an organic form of instrumental music on their frequent film and studio work during the 1980s; and, finally, a more propulsive dance style, which showed Tangerine Dream with a sound quite similar to their electronic inheritors in the field of dance music.

The biggest volume so far in the Spiritual Jazz series from Jazzman Records – and maybe the best as well! This fantastic collection looks at the huge legacy of spiritual jazz that flowed from the Japanese scene in the postwar years – sounds that had their initial expression around the same time that the modal jazz of Miles and Coltrane was bursting forth in the US, but which also too so many twists and turns of its own – with some very strong influences along the way from Japanese folk and culture! Much of this music was initially restricted only to release on Japanese labels – and even later, as some of the artists attained fame, the global circulation of their music only happened with more commercial recordings.

Now That’s What I Call Music’s year-by-year 12-inch series continues with NOW 12″ 80s: 1983, a 4CD set featuring 46 extended mixes from 1983 in what is ‘part one’ of what will presumably be a two-part offering. Amongst what you might call ‘the usual suspects’ there’s some relatively rare remixes included here, such as Eurythmics’ 12-and-a-half minute remix of ‘Right By Your Side’, the extended version of Adam Ant’s ‘Puss ‘N’ Boots’ and and the 5.40 Jellybean remix of Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson’s US chart-topper ‘Say Say Say’. 1983 was obviously a massive year, so you can guess some of the artists represented here, including Tears For Fears, Paul Young, Howard Jones, Wham!, The Human League!
