To quote Quincy from the original liner notes “This Is How I Feel About Jazz is an attempt to supply settings, select the proper cast and musically portray my feelings about some of the less cerebral and more vital or basic elements contained in Jazz.

AVID Jazz here presents four classic Louis Bellson albums plus including original LP liner notes on a finely re-mastered and low priced double CD. Louis Bellson was born on July 26th in Rock Falls, Illinois. He was one of the great drummers of his era alongside such other greats as Buddy Rich, Shelly Manne, Art Blakey and Gene Krupa (who he admits was a huge influence on his playing).

Gerald Joseph Mulligan (April 6, 1927 – January 20, 1996) was an American jazz saxophonist, clarinetist, composer and arranger. Though primarily known as one of the leading jazz baritone saxophonists—playing the instrument with a light and airy tone in the era of cool jazz—Mulligan was also a significant arranger, working with Claude Thornhill, Miles Davis, Stan Kenton, and others. His pianoless quartet of the early 1950s with trumpeter Chet Baker is still regarded as one of the best cool jazz groups. Mulligan was also a skilled pianist and played several other reed instruments. Several of his compositions, such as "Walkin' Shoes" and "Five Brothers", have become standards.

AVID Jazz continues with its Four Classic album series with a re-mastered 2CD release from John Graas, complete with original artwork and liner notes. John Graas began his musical education in the classical arena before becoming interested in the field of jazz music.

In fact, make that two things! Here we feature the first recorded collaboration between two of the finest exponents of the jazz trumpet………Roy “Little Jazz” Eldridge and Dizzy “Diz” Gillespie.

AVID Jazz continues with its Four Classic album series with a re-mastered 2CD third release from Gerry Mulligan, complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details. What a fine set of albums we have for you on our third outing with the legend that is Gerry Mulligan. We have finally collected together three of Gerry Mulligans hard to find and critically acclaimed sextet recordings from 1955-56. “Presenting the Gerry Mulligan Sextet” “A Profile of Gerry Mulligan” and “Mainstream of Jazz”. Mulligan was as ever in a period of change and innovation and the line up on these albums reflects his thoughts as he shifts bass and trumpet parts and brings in trombones etc.

AVID Jazz continues with its occasional Five Classic album series with a re-mastered 2CD release from Elmo Hope complete with original artwork and liner notes. A close friend of Bud Powell, with whom he grew up listening and absorbing the sounds of jazz and classical music. The two chums also befriended another great musical maverick, the jazz composer and pianist Thelonious Monk.

AVID Jazz here presents four classic Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis albums plus including original LP liner notes on a finely re-mastered and low priced double CD. For the 1959 date “Very Saxy” Davis is joined by legendary tenor saxophonists Coleman Hawkins, Arnett Cobb and Buddy Tate along with Shirley Scott on Hammond Organ, George Duvivier on bass and Arthur Edgehill on drums. Four veteran sax players getting together as they did in the old days for what was known as “the battle of the bands” where one band would try to blow the other off stage!

For our latest in a mini series of tributes to Mr Brubeck we have chosen three albums that are vastly different from the experimental album that became the all time classic Time Out (featured on AMSC998). On two of our classic albums, “Southern Scene” and “Digs Disney” Brubeck has mainly chosen southern folk songs and spirituals and of course music from the wonderful world of Disney!
