The Gathering is the first-ever complete cross-career celebration of the U.K.’s much adored melodic rockers musical canon. From the very first demo’s recorded in 1974 right up to the last album, Into The Valley Of The Moonking released in 2009, The Gathering captures every era of Magnum’s life and work over 5 classic discs. Included in the chronology are previously unreleased live tracks; rare demos; hard-to-find single B-Sides featuring extended and alternative versions. Disc 5 of the set is a complete vintage live performance previously unreleased on CD and taken from the Wings Of Heaven tour recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon, London in March 1988. Accompanying the set is a sumptuous 60-page booklet which includes a ‘no stone left un-turned’ ten thousand word story of Magnum written by the Classic Rock magazine news editor, Dave Ling.
The Last Dance is a live album by the English rock band Magnum, released in 1996 by SPV. This is the European release; the UK release was called Stronghold. Hard rockers Magnum got their start in Birmingham, England, in the mid-'70s. The band's first album, Kingdom of Madness, came out in 1978, right in the midst of the punk rock musical revolution. That timing may be one factor contributing to the band's unknown status. Magnum II was released in 1979. After extensive gigging, the group released the live album Marauder in 1980, and Chase the Dragon came two years later. Going back to their "album a year" pace, The Eleventh Hour was released in 1983. The band went two years between discs again, with On a Storyteller's Night not being released until 1985, but the time seemed to have done some good for them. The album was well received and their fame was growing in Europe.
Magnum II is the eponymous second studio album by the English rock band Magnum. It was released in 1979 on Jet Records. Magnum II followed on from the success of Magnum's debut album, Kingdom of Madness. The album was produced by former Ten Years After bass player Leo Lyons, who had success with producing Phenomenon, Force It and No Heavy Petting for UFO. As with their debut album Kingdom of Madness, much of the material on Magnum II was already written and had already been previewed in Magnum's live set and were suitably "road tested". The album, however failed to chart on its release in October 1979. Both "Changes", released in September 1979, and "Foolish Heart", released in November 1979, were singles.
