5th Dimension The Best of

Between 1967 and 1973, the 5th Dimension enjoyed 29 U.S. hit singles on the Soul City and Bell labels. This compilation selects all of their Top 40 hits (bar two live tracks) and tops up the running order with five lesser hits. Top-notch material by Jimmy Webb, Laura Nyro, Neil Sedaka and Bacharach & David is rendered as exquisite harmony pop by the vocal group and their producer Bones Howe. Although "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In" (from the musical "Hair") and Nyro's "Wedding Bell Blues" were the chart-toppers, Webb's "Up, Up And Away" is the archetypal 5th Dimension sound. That the songs still sound remarkably fresh is due to the avoidance of formulaic writing, with no one writer or team being allowed to dominate. From the first hit, tellingly a cover of the Mamas & The Papas' "Go Where You Wanna Go," via material by Tony Macaulay, Sloan & Barri, and Ashford & Simpson, the quality never diminishes.

Britain's counterpart to the US's 5th Dimension, sunshine pop supremos DESIGN not only scored success with a slew of acclaimed albums in the early to mid '70s, but became the 'go-to' guest band for many of the UK's most popular, celebrity-hosted TV shows, including those of Tommy Cooper, Benny Hill, and The Two Ronnies.

Soul & Inspiratio is the 1974 album by American pop soul vocal group The 5th Dimension. This 2007 remaster released by Collectors' Choice Music features six bonus tracks.

As the title implies, Individually & Collectively (1972) contains both ensemble as well as solo efforts from the 5th Dimension's Lamonte McLemore, Ron Townson, Billy Davis, Jr., Marilyn McCoo, and Florence LaRue. However, this was certainly not the first time that the combo had ventured away from lush five-part harmonies in favor of spotlighting the members' specific talents.

The Best Sixties Album contains the defining tracks of the decade and features some of the biggest hits from artists including Scott McKenzie, The Byrds, The Moody Blues, Del Shannon, Andy Williams, Sly & The Family Stone, Aretha Franklin, Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette and many more.

It's one of the great paradoxes of contemporary pop music that Nilsson, one of the most talented and respected American songwriters of the 20th century, is primarily remembered for his stone classic recordings of two songs written by others: Fred Neil's 'Everybody's Talkin' and Badfinger's 'Without You'. Gotta Get Up aims to remedy that by spotlighting two-dozen Nilsson songs from the years 1965 to 1972, including several of which he made no official recordings. Among the highlights are 'Cuddly Toy' and 'Daddy's Song' performed by Nilsson champions the Monkees, Al Kooper's harmony-filled recording of 'Mournin' Glory Story', Canadian folkie Tom Northcott's version of Nilsson's autobiographical '1941' and the MFQ's Phil Spector-produced 'This Could Be The Night', one of Brian Wilson's favorite records.
