The author of this unique art project, Nikita Mikhalkov, presents to the viewers the works of his favorite 19th-century painters. We shall see a whole panorama of artistic trends and tastes of the period, learn about amazing life stories of the painters and their subjects, the history of creation of the masterpieces of Russian painting, and get a broad picture of Russian culture, particularly the culture of painting. Thanks to a deeply personal, involved presentation of the material, a lively, ingenuous intonation, the paintings of the talented Russian artists will come so close to us that we’ll be able to hear “the music of Russian painting” and understand what perhaps was hidden due to our, sometimes superficial, momentary perception. And, as a result, get a gratifying sense of association with the unique heritage of our great country and the proud feeling of being part of its great people and history.

For the very first time, many of these new reels have been remastered and brought together for this special Collector's Edition - some unseen since the war. The series (11 episodes) tells the story of the village Schabbach, on the Hunsrueck in Germany through the years 1919-1982. Central person is Maria, who we see growing from a 17 year old girl to an old woman, and her family. The family, like the rest of the German people live through the crises after WW-I, the rise and fall of Nazism and WW-II, and the rebuilding and the following prosperity of the village (as a symbol for the whole country) after WW II.

The Contacts collection is an invitation to discover the artistic approach of the greatest contemporary photographers from an original angle. Through a series of images (contact sheets, proofs, prints and slides), with a commentary by the photographer, the viewer enters the secret world of their creation and is guided into the heart of the photographic creative process.

In 1917, the First World War is raging. Julien is from Luxemburg, so instead of having to go to war he studies piano in Paris. One day his friend Jacques, also a musician and now a fighter pilot on the front, invites him to spend a few days in his family's empty house in Bray. The housekeeper, a beautiful but mute woman lets Julien in, but his friend is late and he is obliged to wait. In the meantime, he starts reminiscing of the pre-war days spent with his friend and Jacques' girlfriend Odile.

We shall meet Lev Tolstoy in the final years of his life at Yasnaya Polyana. We shall see him surrounded by his family, friends, acquaintances and absolute strangers who were coming to the great man and artist from all over the world. We shall hear “the voice of his thoughts”. In his sleepless nights, we shall follow his memory of the happy youthful years and the crucial, hard ones. We shall witness Tolstoy’s tragic departure from Yasnaya Polyana and his death at an obscure little station of Astapovo.
