Disarm spans a dozen countries to look at how, despite a global ban, millions of antipersonnel mines continue to claim victims daily in more than eighty countries. Defined as a conventional weapon, antipersonnel mines inflict mass destruction upon civilian populations for decades after the initial conflict ends. Despite some twenty thousand casualties a year, mines continue to be used and stockpiled by governments and rebel groups.

In March 2016, the Danish TV Channel TV2 broadcast a series of documentaries based on recorded conversations and meetings with representatives of Danish mosques. The TV Channel had planted two moles and instructed them to act as a married couple facing different difficulties related to their marriage. For three months they live as a married couple, Fatma and Mohammed, seeking advice about life as a newly arrived Muslim in the West. We learn in this edition that when Japan entered the Edo period and peace became the norm across the land, sword-smiths began making cooking knives in addition to weapons. After a ban on the wearing of swords went into effect in 1876, smiths began focusing in earnest on the creation of knives, scissors, and other bladed tools. Blades made in Sakai, in Osaka—once Japan’s best center for sword production—were of such superior quality that they were allowed to be engraved with “Sakai Exclusive.”
