This all-star tribute to Aretha, recorded live at Radio City Music Hall in New York pays tribute to one of the USA s national treasures. Previously unreleased on DVD or CD, the undisputed Queen of Soul is joined by some very special guest stars including Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, Backstreet Boys, Kid Rock, and more. Originally broadcast on VH1 in 2001, this program features many of her greatest hits; a one-of-a-kind performance that will never be repeated.

Not as riddled with abysmal re-recordings and poor-sounding live versions as some of the other compilations released by Mastercuts in 2005, Mastercuts: Funk Divas is a three-disc set that should come in handy for listeners who don't consider themselves experts of soul and funk from the '60s through the early '80s, but want to dig beyond the obvious classics. It's annoying that only 30 tracks are spread across the three discs (everything would've fit comfortably on two discs), but there's a decent if arbitrary assortment. A couple particularly notable inclusions: Material's "Take Care," featuring a pre-fame (and therefore pre-"Crack is wack!") Whitney Houston, and Ethel Beatty's "I Know You Care," an excellent (if hyper-repetitive) B-side from Roy Ayers' Uno Melodic label.

Contains fewer crossover hits than previous volumes, but R&B scorchers like "Funky Music Sho' Nuff Turns Me On," by Yvonne Fair, and Bonnie Pointer's "Free My From My Freedom," will liven any party. High Energy's energetic "He's a Pretender" sounds like a smash, but failed to sell, the Mary Jane Girls' erotic "Candy Man" did much better. The only Pop hits are Thelma Houston's "Don't Leave Me This Way," and "The Boss," by Diana Ross, but crankers by Tata Vega, Syreeta Wright, and the Supremes rate high on the groove meter. However, Milira's jazzy "Mercy Mercy Me" doesn't belong on a collection called Funkology: Dance Divas.

You don't have to imagine any image of the mellow and full voices of Jazz divas. Just open your ears and enjoy it with ease. The four-dimensional floatation of electronic particles insinuates and creates the vivid appearances for the improvisation sound in modern times. Nu-Jazz Divas takes perfect interpretation of voices and extraordinary recording quality as main considerations and displays the absorption and remake of traditional Jazz in electronic generation. The two CDs contain the nuances between "Happy Hour" and "After Hour". The Cha Cha beats mixed with Funk, the inseparable House and Soul, even the blood linkage of Fusion and Urban, they all exquisitely express the variable characteristics of Jazz, which can be uplifting and exultant or soothing and enchanting. Artists include Alice Russell, Parov Stelar, Dephazz, P-Jay, Mo'Horizons, Nils Krogh, the Quantic Soul Orchestra and many others.

Lee pays tribute to the pivotal figures of jazz and blues singing who have influenced her. This recording comprises not only a triptych through those dark divas' repertoires but represents some of the music from a stage show she has written about Josephine Baker, Billie Holiday, Lena Horne, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, and Ella Fitzgerald. Perhaps not as familiar worldwide as she is in her Canadian homeland, Lee continues to mature and grow.

Queens of Jazz is a celebration of some of the greatest female jazz singers of the 20th century. It takes an unflinching and revealing look at what it actually took to be a jazz diva during a turbulent time in America's social history - a time when battle lines were being constantly drawn around issues of race, gender and popular culture. This is a documentary about how these women triumphed - always at some personal cost - to become some of the greatest artists of the 20th century; women who chose singing above life itself because singing was their life.

A celebration of some of the greatest female jazz singers of the 20th century. It takes an unflinching and revealing look at what it actually took to be a jazz diva during a turbulent time in America's social history - a time when battle lines were being constantly drawn around issues of race, gender and popular culture. The documentary tracks the diva's difficult progress as she emerges from the tough, testosterone-fuelled world of the big bands of the 30s and 40s, to fill nightclubs and saloons across the US in the 50s and early 60s as a force in her own right.
