It was recorded at American Sound Studio in Memphis in January and February 1969 under the direction of producer Chips Moman and backed by its house band, informally known as "The Memphis Boys". The album peaked at number 13 on the Billboard 200, number two on the country charts and number one in the United Kingdom, and its single "In the Ghetto" reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America in 1970. In later years, it garnered further favorable reviews, while it was ranked number 190 on Rolling Stone magazine's 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

From Elvis in Memphis is the ninth studio album by American rock and roll icon Elvis Presley. Motivated by his early influences in country, rhythm and blues, gospel and soul, the latest music trend in Memphis, Presley chose to record his next songs at the American Sound Studio, directed by music producer Chips Moman.

"Portrait Of Sheila" is the jazz singer’s widely acclaimed debut. Joined by Barry Galbraith, Steve Swallow and Denzil Best, the recording is one of Blue Note’s first vocal albums. In the 1963 Down Beat magazine Critics Poll, she was ranked first in the vocal category for "Talent Deserving Wider Recognition". Her distinguished tone dazzles on tunes including “Hum Drum Blues,” “Falling In Love With Love,” “Dat Dere” and more. This pivotal classic is included on The Penguin Guide to Jazz’s “Core Collection” and remains one of the finest jazz vocal debuts ever recorded. She did not record again as a leader for more than a dozen years.
