Hilton Ruiz, whose life ended in tragic circumstances in New Orleans in 2006 was a hugely talented and popular artist. From his solo work to the now legendary duets with the late Major Holley, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Tito Puente, Symphony orchestras, and the various aggregations of his own, Hilton was a master of many styles. When it came to caressing the ivories, Ruiz had the class of Erroll Garner and Noro Morales with the sophistication of Duke Ellington and Ernesto Lecuona all wrapped up into one. You'll hear these elements and more when listening to this album including the explosive rhythm section of Andy Gonzalez on bass, Steve Berrios on drums, Giovanni Hidalgo on congas and percussion, and tenor saxophonists David Sanchez and Peter Brainin.

Don Ellis traveled to India to perform two concerts in Bombay (now Mumbai), India in Janurary of 1978 with a small group consisting of Emilie Diehl, vocals; Randy Kerber, keyboards; Leon Gaer, bass; and David on drums. The recent unearthing of a tape of those concerts, combined with David's production, restoration, editing and mastering work, along with the efforts of Ellis historian Ken Orton and Gary Gilles of Sleepy Night Records now allows those performances to finally be shared.

Andrew Hill followed his first Palmetto release, the widely acclaimed Dusk, with this remarkable live album, which was recorded during a three-night run at New York's Birdland in January 2002. Whereas Dusk featured a sextet, A Beautiful Day boasts a large ensemble, billed at Birdland and previous gigs as the Andrew Hill Sextet + 11. Despite a large regiment of horns, Hill's reflective piano figures prominently. Trumpeter Ron Horton relieves Hill of the conducting burden by serving as musical director, managing an arcane system of cues and transitions and keeping all the players, quite literally, on the same page.

This 10 CD set offers an exciting overview of some of the most important recordings made by American jazz stars in Paris in the Fifties. They are milestones of Modern Jazz, Bebop and Hard Bop recorded by some of the most important players of the time, including Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, Lionel Hampton, Chet Baker, Sarah Vaughan, Mary Lou Williams, Lester Young and Donald Byrd. Treated like second class citizens at home, many American jazz stars not only got more recognition and respect in the French capital, but found much better playing conditions as well. From concert-halls like "L'Olympia" to the clubs of the "Latin Quarter" they were appreciated and celebrated, and their music met with a glowing enthusiasm.

“Ms. Night is that rare new singer who backs up the chutzpah, talent and confidence needed to succeed in the jazz scene in New York & America. It didn’t take me long to start programming Ms. Night’s music on Real Jazz, Sirius XM and I think the jazz scene is better for it. Believe me there aren’t enough good singers around” -MARK RUFFIN, Real Jazz, SIRIUS XM, North America & Canada

Born in Switzerland in 2003 to an opera singer father and violinist mother, Anais Reno moved with her parents to New York as a baby. At 8, she received voice lessons from jazz singer Sarah Tolar, who first introduced her to the voice of Nat ‘King’ Cole. „She drew my attention to how honest he is as an interpreter and how gorgeous his sound is”. After that Ella Fitzgerald also became a huge influence, followed by Carmen McRae, Frank Sinatra and also the criminally under-rated Bill Henderson.
