After Neil Young left the California folk-rock band Buffalo Springfield in 1968, he slowly established himself as one of the most influential and idiosyncratic singer/songwriters of his generation. Young's body of work ranks second only to Bob Dylan in terms of depth, and he was able to sustain his critical reputation, as well as record sales, for a longer period of time than Dylan, partially because of his willfully perverse work ethic…

Lewis Allan "Lou" Reed was an American musician, singer, and songwriter. He was the guitarist, vocalist, and principal songwriter of the Velvet Underground, and his solo career spanned five decades. Rolling Stone magazine voted Reed's 1989 "New York" album the 19th best of the 1980s. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time included two albums by Reed as a solo artist: "Transformer" and "Berlin". This Collection brings together remastered anthology of groundbreaking studio and live album titles written, recorded by Reed as a solo artist following the 1970 dissolution of the Velvet Underground.

'Short pieces' are what generally dominate the second half of the traditional recital. They are meant to be diverse and cover a lot of musical territory in a short amount of time. As the particular pieces on this album are also programmatic, 'Short Stories' became the title of my ninth album of chamber music. Though my parents have since passed on, the remaining family members who were playing on the first album are represented here: my wife Tanya on viola and violin and my uncle Harold on doublebass. We are also joined by Greg Diehl and Kaila Graef, the two other members of the American Viola Quartet.

His works have earned him four Grammy Awards and a further eleven nominations, four gold records, and six platinum records in the United States. This Hi-Res collection includes all of his studio albums.

Nearly 30 years after it came out, Lou Reed's solo debut suggests that neither Reed nor his new record company were quite sure about what to do with him in 1972. It would be years before the cult of the Velvet Underground became big enough to mean anything commercially, leaving Lou pretty much back where he started from in the public eye after five years of hard work, and he seemed to be searching for a different musical direction on this set without quite deciding what it would be; while the best tunes are admirably lean, no-frills rock & roll, there are also several featuring tricked-up arrangements that don't suit the material terribly well (at no other time in history would anyone believe that Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman would be a good choice as backing musicians for the guy who wrote "Sister Ray").
