Special guest Wayne Shorter turns this into something more than a polite "world music" session. Providing for Horta the same entrancing, vivid backgrounds he has for Milton Nascimento, Shorter's solos mix with the Afro-Latin backgrounds and Horta's own compositions and contributions to make this one of the better recent international sets.
The young, pretty and shy Angela Duvall is jailed for murder in some Latin American country. In the prison she gets brutally "initiated" by the other inmates. The nice, honest and handsome prison doctor believe she's innocent and tries to help her out.
George Stevens' epic production. "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken Me?" It is towards this climactic crossroads that the story of Jesus of Nazareth leads, and to which, at the final moment, it again looks back in triumphant retrospect. It is the anguishing crossroads where the eternal questions of faith and doubt become resolved. Star-studded cast includes Max Von Sydow (as Jesus), Dorothy McGuire (as Mary), Robert Loggia (as Joseph), Charlton Heston (as John the Baptist), Michael Anderson, Jr., Robert Blake, Jamie Farr, David McCallum, Roddy McDowall, Ina Balin, Janet Margolin, Sidney Poitier, Carroll Baker, Pat Boone, Van Heflin, Sal Mineo, Shelley Winters, Ed Wynn, John Wayne, Telly Savalas, Angela Lansbury, Paul Stewart, Harold J. Stone, Martin Landau, Joseph Schildkraut, Victor Buono, Jose Ferrer, Claude Rains, Donald Pleasence, Richard Conte and Cyril Delevanti.
Baron Fefé Cefalù is a Sicilian nobleman bored of life and of wife Rosalia: he falls in love with young and beautiful cousin Angela, who spends summers in the same palace. Since divorce is impossible in Italy in the 1960s, he decides to kill the wife, knowing that sentence would be very light if he proved that he committed murder for a matter of honour, i.e. when he found the wife together with another man. Therefore, he starts finding a lover for Rosalia, using Carmelo Patané, a painter well-known by her.
The sexual experiences of the insatiable and ever more kinky temptress Lulu (Francesca Neri) are chronicled in this virtually plotless film. In the story, Lulu marries the American professor who first seduced her at age fifteen in a car (of course). She tires of hanging out with him and begins seeking sex of all kinds, hanging out in some pretty seedy places in the process. Along the way, she has intimate encounters with male homosexuals, transvestites, and indulges in a bit of sadomasochism. This film made a big splash in Spain while it was being produced because the first woman who was offered the lead (Angela Molina) quite publicly refused it, for (obvious) reasons that spurred interest in the final production. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
