The new album by the Warsaw Philharmonic features music by eminent Polish composer Karol Szymanowski. His Litany to the Virgin Mary, Stabat Mater and Song of the Night were written between 1914 and 1933, which is considered to have been the most fruitful period in his creative life.

Superstar tenor, Roberto Alagna, returns with his sensational new album Caruso. Caruso 1873 is Alagna’s tribute to the Neapolitan singer who Alagna considers to be the greatest tenor of all time. Alagna honours his legendary predecessor with a selection of repertoire drawn from Caruso’s own recording career, which stretched from 1902 to 1920. Alagna is accompanied by the critically acclaimed Orchestre National D’ile-de-France, singers Aleksandra Kurzak and Rafal Siwek and conductor, pianist and arranger, yvan Cassar. The music chosen is a journey back in time through Caruso’s eclectic repertoire. It showcases his personality and is blended with Alagna’s own favourites. The album offers many surprises and stretches from Handel and Pergolesi to verismo composers including Cilea and Leoncavallo, contemporaries of Caruso who wrote music for him. Puccini is represented by “Vecchia zimarra”, the bass Colline’s aria from La bohème which – as legend has it – Caruso once sang on stage standing in for an ailing colleague in perfect subterfuge.

Unforeseen and born out of unique circumstances, this is a unique record. This is the first album I have made devoted entirely to French song. I think this is no more than my French listeners deserve. We have made numerous journeys together, from the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies to South America with Pasión, from Italy to the United States with Little Italy, but I thought it was finally time to play the music of our own native land, too. Thats why I am dedicating this album in its entirety to French song, but with a twist. Between the lines, as it were, in this repertoire, I have sought to highlight all the variety of genres and influences from near and far that are now intrinsic elements of French musical identity and heritage. As many are no doubt aware, I am passionate about different musical cultures from all over the world. As we explore the French repertoire, we shall make many musical discoveries on our travels…

Dans cet hommage à la Sicile, Roberto Alagna revisite les grands classiques de l'opéra et interprète les plus fameux chants traditionnels napolitains et siciliens comme «O sole mio», «Cavalleria rusticana», «Torna a surriento» et «Bellini». Certains d'entre eux figurent sur son dernier album, «Malèna». A ses côtés sur la scène de l'Opéra royal de Versailles, l'Orchestre de chambre de Paris, dirigé par Yvan Cassar. D'autres chanteurs lyriques comme Natalie Dessay, Beatrice Uria-Monzon, Laurent Naouri ou Francesco Demuro ont également participé à cette captation spécialement enregistrée pour la télévision, tout comme le fantasque violoniste Nemanja Radulovic.
