All Debarge

Motown considered this Michigan family to be the heirs apparent to the Jacksons; they even let them write, produce and arrange their songs (a luxury they did not afford the Jacksons). Here are the four LPs born of that fruitful relationship, all in print for the first time in years, plus remixes and unissued versions of their key dance cuts and ballads. The Debarges ('81) and the Top 40 LPs All This Love ('82), in a Special Way ('83) and Rhythm of the Night ('85) include the R&B hits Stop! Don't Tease Me; I Like It; All This Love; Time Will Reveal; Rhythm of the Night; Who's Holding Donna Now; Love Me in a Special Way; You Wear It Well; the Heart Is Not So Smart, and more, and you also get extended, instrumental and alternate mixes of their biggest hits!

"Bad Boys" is the 5th studio album released by R&B group DeBarge in 1987, after both El DeBarge and Bunny DeBarge had left the lineup. When El and Bunny DeBarge left the group, remaining members James, Mark and Randy left Motown Records after a seven-year tenure in 1986 and signed with the local Striped Horse label. They then called on eldest brother Bobby (formerly of the group Switch) to join the lineup and produce their album.

The Ultimate Collection is a 1997 compilation CD by sibling group DeBarge. It features many of their hits plus solo tracks done by El DeBarge, Chico DeBarge and Bunny DeBarge. This was released by Motown.

It was late August in 1969 when Phil May and Wally Waller were flown to St. Tropez by Philippe DeBarge (an eccentric French wealthy playboy), and taken to the DeBarge family estate - a magnet for the rich and famous of the era, from politicians to film and rock stars. DeBarge had serious money and wanted to make a serious album, with him as the front man. He'd done his research. He knew exactly who he wanted to make that album with. They were The Pretty Things.

"This Is My Dream" is the 4th album by R&B group Switch. It was released in 1980. This is also the only album during their tenure with Motown not to feature input from Jermaine Jackson; they produced this album themselves. Following a slump with the subpar performance of their third album, "Reaching for Tomorrow", released earlier that year, the group rebounded with this effort. It included the top-ten hit "Love Over And Over Again", which Bobby DeBarge wrote with his sister and future DeBarge member Bunny DeBarge.

In 1985, NOW Music released ‘NOW Dance: The 12” Mixes’, a 20-track compilation that included the extended or remix versions of some of the biggest recent hits and popular club tracks. This was followed a year later by a second 20-track volume, and in 1989, a third… NOW Music proudly present ‘NOW Dance – The 80s’; a selection of 48 tracks that appeared on those three original ‘NOW Dance’ albums - all in their 12”, extended or remixed versions.

The second Marvin Gaye tribute album assembled by Motown within a five-year period, Marvin Is 60 brings little to the table but faithful renditions of its 13 selections. While many of the artists present owe obvious debts to the singer, only a couple are able to do more than hint at Gaye's greatness: for instance, Erykah Badu and D'Angelo do a charming if hardly earthshaking cover of the Gaye/Tammi Terrell duet "Your Precious Love." Jon B and new Motown-signed Profyle lay down note-for-note copies of What's Going On treasures, while dull-edged romancers such as Brian McKnight and Will Downing do the same for classics from Let's Get It On. Finally, Zhane's weak-voiced take on "Got to Give It Up" illuminates Gaye's own record by reminding us just how much he could do with a little falsetto breathiness. Anyone looking to understand Gaye's genius would do better with a copy of the box set The Master.
