I do think that this Decca set is arguably the best compilation reissue of such a bulk of Handel work which has been released in a long time, just in time to commemorate the two hundred fiftieth anniversary of the passing of il caro Sassone. There is a lot in this box, absence of libretti notwithstanding. The enclosed booklet is essential to navigate you through the track listings and timings and little else but a small general essay on GFH.

Purcell and the majority of the British public were genuinely fond of Queen Mary, who with William replaced King James on the throne when he fled to the continent. London musicians breathed a collective sigh of relief at the Glorious Revolution and Purcell composed six of his finest Odes to honour his new Queen’s birthday.

The nation of Sogaria has a new ruler, a Queen and her name is Sonja of Hyrkania. How she rose from being a She-Devil with a sword to a She-Devil with an army starts the initial story arc of this new ongoing series from Dynamite. Surely if Conan can do it, there's no reason why Red Sonja can't. The solicitation for has mentioned of a "new thrilling event for ." The Dynamite solicitation for Red Sonja #49 did say: "This is it as writer Brian Reed sends off his Red Sonja in style and Dynamite plans a momentous event to occur in as the welcome writer Joshua Ortega and the return of artist Mel Rubi in the thrilling 'Queen Sonja' event! Be there!" By these we can safely conclude . Writer Joshua Ortega indeed improves on the narrative flow but it is the artwork of Mel Rubi that stands out. Literally as bloody good as ever. Also immediately obvious is the fact that Red Sonja's chain mail bikini has now become a micro string chain mail bikini. From a hundred or so interlocking rings her front loin flap now sports at most twenty-five, and the once approximately thirty rings covering each of her breasts are now reduced to a perfect triangle of nine rings each. I suppose in those ancient times the higher a female warrior goes up the ranks of mobility the lesser her body covering becomes. Not that we're complaining. In fact we hope to see those loin flaps flap more often (I won't say anything about Jackson Herbert's cover in issue #1). All Minutemen cover-to-cover scans.

Fly, bold rebellion was one of Purcell’s early Welcome Songs, composed for Charles II in 1683. The manuscript gives no indication of the date of the first performance, but it seems evident from the anonymous author of the words that it was written shortly after the discovery of the Rye House Plot, which took place in June 1683. The Ode thus would seem likely to have been performed to celebrate Charles’s return from Windsor to Whitehall at the end of June, or perhaps later in the year on his return to London from Winchester (25 September) or Newmarket (20 October). After the splendid two-part Symphony, the Ode contains the already established selection of choruses, trios and solos, interspersed with Purcell’s deliciously scored string ritornelli.
