Andrew Bird and his frequent collaborator Madison Cunningham have announced a new album: Cunningham Bird finds the musicians fully covering Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks’ landmark 1973 album, Buckingham Nicks. Outside Problems consists of nine fleeting, expansive moments of instrumental improvisation and melodic exploration make up a new album that captures the sound of music in everyday life.

"When I was in my 20s, I lived in an old apartment/hotel in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago. It was a relic from better times (the 1920s), cheap and mostly occupied by retired Jesuit priests and nuns from nearby Loyola University. The gym had old 10-speed Schwinn bicycles on concrete blocks for cheap pelotons, an old swimming pool where operas were performed, and the steam room was a clubhouse for the local Russian mafia.

Andrew Bird has always been highly respected and has held a captive audience with his story telling prowess, but it's with his new album, "Are You Serious", that he has made a breakthrough record. Produced by Tony Berg, the album propels him into a new category of American songwriters. It's his most direct lyrically to date with key contributions from Fiona Apple and Blake Mills.

Internationally acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter Andrew Bird releases My Finest Work Yet via Loma Vista / Concord. My Finest Work Yet finds Bird grappling with themes of current day dichotomies and how to identify a moral compass amidst such divisive times. “I’m interested in the idea that our enemies are what make us whole there’s an intimacy one shares with their opponent when locked in such a struggle. If we were to just walk away would our enemies miss us? How did we get to this point and how can we, through awareness of it, maybe pull ourselves out of this death spiral,” says Bird.

For Jonathan Segal’s new movie, Norman, the director tapped looping violinist extraordinaire and indie singer-songwriter Andrew Bird to create the soundtrack. One of the publicity blurbs describes Norman as a movie about “a self-aware and darkly funny teen,” which could mean the music goes with either an introspective hipster vibe or angst-ridden hard pop/metal. Given that Bird is the composer, we get the former, with a number of typically mellow and beautiful Bird folk/rock/pop tunes on here, the standouts being the acoustic and impassioned “Night Sky” and the electrically charged rocker “Darkmatter”. Additionally, there are a few choice outside contributions from the likes of The Blow and Wolf Parade.
