'Growing up, I'm on the trail of storytellers,' Mutter says of her work with the Virtuosi, a rotating ensemble of current and former Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation scholarship holders.

Anne-Sophie Mutter, one of the greatest violinists of our time, will celebrate her 60th birthday on 29 June 2023. Deutsche Grammophon is honouring the wonderful artist with a limited and numbered Vinyl Edition (5 LPs) of her solo recordings under the baton of her early mentor Herbert von Karajan. Set content ranges from Mutter’s 1978 DG debut album with Mozart’s 3rd and 5th Violin Concertos to those from Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Bruch and Brahms, all with Berliner Philharmoniker. LP 5 includes a live recording of Tchaikovsky’s Concerto with Wiener Philharmoniker from 1988, which turned out to be the very last cooperation of Anne-Sophie Mutter and Herbert von Karajan. The set provides 5 LPs on 180g vinyl and a 16-page inlay (English/German) with track listings, liner notes by Dorothea Walchshäusl, photos and facsimiles of the recording documentation.

SWR2 New Talent is a promotion and support programme of the broadcasting station SWR aiming to help exceptional young talents to launch their career. Tavener's cello concerto "The Protecting Veil" is a deeply spiritual instrumental piece that puts the life and work of the Virgin Mary to music. It was premiered at the BBC Proms in 1989 with cellist Steven Isserlis, for whom Tavener had written the concerto. At the time Tavener wrote the composition he was 45 years old and had already converted to Orthodox Christian faith whose mysticism appealed to him.

In 1998 an article appeared in The Times claiming the non-existence of talent. Just as the eminent psychologist R.D. Laing explained that ‘schizophrenia’ was a fabricated term for an analysable condition, so the Times writer stressed that talent was a fancy description for hard work.
