Anteloper

Psychedelic jazz funk from jamie branch and Jason Nazary's Anteloper project, with help from legendary guitarist and former Tortoise member Jeff Parker.

ANTELOPER is the electric brain child of JAIMIE BRANCH (fly or die, high life) and JASON NAZARY (little women, helado negro, bear in heaven). Branch and Nazary have been playing together as trumpeter and drummer for years, since meeting at the New England Conservatory of Music in 2002, but in this duo both musicians include synthesizers to push further into the spectral space ship ether. With deep rhythmic passages, telepathic improvisations and effortless melodic negotiations, Anteloper pushes forward, swinging its horns all the while.

In May 2018, Jaimie Branch took up a month-long residency in the shipping container-turned-recording studio at Pioneer Works, an arts center down the street from her home in Red Hook, Brooklyn. She called up Jason Nazary, and he rolled by the studio loaded with acoustic drums, electronic triggers, modular FX unit, synths, sequencers, and a myriad of processors. Branch engineered the sessions, and brought her rig to the table: trumpet, synths, delay/looper pedal, auxiliary percussion, and a Roland TR08 drum machine. They did what they always do — rolled tape and started from nothing.

The first solo album from Gabriel Birnbaum (Wilder Maker, Debo Band), featuring Will Graefe (Okkervil River, Star Rover), Adam Brisbin (Sam Evian, Jolie Holland) and Jason Nazary (Bear In Heaven, Anteloper).
