Having won acclaim for his recent recordings of French repertoire, Robin Ticciati now turns to the music of Anton Bruckner. Ticciati is well suited to conducting Bruckner with an approach that is both "expansive and revelatory" (The Guardian). Having already performed this work with the Bergen Philharmonic and Vienna Symphony Orchestras, Ticciati returned to Berlin to continue his recording series with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester.

Heinz Holliger's lifelong fascination with the music of Robert Schumann finds further expression on the album Aschenmusik, issued to celebrate the Swiss oboist-composer's 75th birthday (21 May 2014). A new interpretation of Holliger's Romancendres is framed by Schumann's own works. Strong performances by Holliger himself and by Anita Leuzinger, solo cellist from the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, and by Austrian pianist Anton Kernjak make this recording another important addition to Heinz Holliger's ECM discography.

To this day, Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 2 in C minor continues to be the least frequently performed of all his symphonies. Not as revolutionary as the first, or as brutally reckless as the third, Bruckner’s core ambition with his Second is a constant testing, exploration, and expansion of the possibilities of the symphony. Conductor Marek Janowski and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande succeed in doing justice to the work, and the recording is clear proof of Janowski’s brilliance when it comes to conducting Bruckner. In reviewing the recording, Gramophone declared: “There’s more than a touch of the great Eugen Jochum in Janowski’s approach.”

In Tibetan Buddhism there is a ritual of rotating prayer wheels. A prayer wheel is a cylinder with mantras inscribed on it. Rotating a prayer wheel has a very powerful positive effect: it helps purify karma, not only of the person who is rotating it but also of all the living beings the person thinks about while doing so. One revolution is considered to be equivalent to reciting all of the mantras carried by the wheel, which can actually be quite a large number as the inner space of the wheel is filled with mantras written on rolls of the thinnest paper. The purpose of this "mechanization" is not simply to render the ritual more efficient: the circular motion of certain magic formulas acts to shape streams of energy in an optimal way thus purifying the space and everybody within it.
