Label/Cat#: Trikont US-190 | Country/Year: Germany 1993
Genre: Folk, World, Electronica | Style: Austrian/Bavarian Folk / Crossover

Attwenger (formed 1990) is a musical duo from Linz, Austria. The group is made up of drummer Markus Binder and button accordion player Hans-Peter Falkner; both members also sing. Attwenger's music is an unusual combination of Upper Austrian folk music and hip-hop, with lyrics sung (and rapped) in Upper Austrian dialect. Falkner often plays his accordion through effects pedals to give his instrument a distorted timbre similar to that of an electric guitar…

David Helbock - Austrian Syndicate (2023) [Official Digital Download 24/96]

David Helbock - Austrian Syndicate (2023)
FLAC (tracks) 24-bit/96 kHz | Front Cover & Digital Booklet | Time - 51:25 minutes | 1,06 GB
Contemporary Jazz, Modern Creative | Label: ACT Music, Official Digital Download

Austrian Syndicate…the phrase immediately brings to mind the best-known and most influential of all Austrians in jazz, Joe Zawinul. And yet David Helbock’s project is much more than just a homage to his compatriot. It is a return to the roots of fusion jazz and how things developed from then on. It is also a new direction stylistically for Helbock, who has harnessed a panoply of inspiration with a refreshing openness to new sounds from far and wide. As Helbock himself puts it: "This is close to my heart." Helbock has been able to enlist the best rhythm section in Austria for the Syndicate: Raphael Preuschl on bass and bass ukulele, drummer Herbert Pirker and percussionist Claudio Spieler. The quintet also has an American in it, one for whom becoming Austrian was a matter of choice: pianist Peter Madsen. This Austrian supergroup is also a place where Helbock’s stellar international guests shine brightly: Maria João, Fred Wesley, Dhafer Youssef, Alex Acuña and Lakecia Benjamin.

Hotel Palindrone are from Austria but they dive into a lot of different traditions and then surface, holding the things they like. So you may hear a Scottish air next to some exquisite yodelling as well as more traditional Austrian tunes, or with a waltz, a Swedish polska and then Quebecois or Galician dance tunes…

Austrian Frontier Troops 1740-98 (Men-at-Arms) by Darko Pavlovic

Austria's Balkan frontier – the disputed borderland between Europe and the Ottoman Turks – was defended in the 18th century by a unique organization of hardy communities who were granted farmland in return for armed service. These Grenzers, masters of guerrilla warfare, were later incorporated into Austria's regular forces, and earned a wider reputation fighting against the army of Frederik the Great’s Prussia.
