Jorma Ludwik Kaukonen, Jr. is an American blues, folk, and rock guitarist, best known for his work with Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna, and his own bands. It was his first album on a major label since 1980's Barbeque King. Kaukonen didn't write any new compositions for the album, and instead played mostly country-blues cover songs. The album features performances by Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Byron House and Bela Fleck, and was nominated for a Grammy award in 2003 for "Best Traditional Folk Album".

Blue Country Heart is a Jorma Kaukonen studio album released in June, 2002. It was his first album on a major label since 1980's Barbeque King. Kaukonen didn't write any new compositions for the album, and instead played mostly country-blues cover songs. Kaukonen again relied on the talents of other musicians for this solo effort, but turned to musicians he had not previously worked with on any project. Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Byron House and Bela Fleck helped add more of the country flavor not present in previous Kaukonen solo efforts. The album was nominated for a Grammy award in 2003 for "Best Traditional Folk Album."

Under the steady glow of the lights on a spartan stage, aka acoustic Hot Tuna, made it look easy on April 4th at the Paramount Theatre in Rutland Vermont. Yet during the course of the two roughly one-hour sets comprising this appearance near the end of their brief spring tour, the former guitarist and bassist for Jefferson Airplane illustrated how a duo setting is ideal to illustrate not just how difficult it is to play music well, but also how difficult it is to play music well with others.

Guitariste soliste du Jefferson Airplane, dont il trouve le nom, Jorma Kaukonen est né à Washington D.C., le 23 décembre 1940, de parents d'origine finlandaise et russe. Il grandit dans différents pays (Pakistan, Philippines), au gré des missions de son père, employé au Département d'Etat. De retour dans son pays natal, il forme son premier groupe, The Triumphs, avec Jack Casady. Passionné de blues, il s'installe à San Francisco en 1962 et joue pour Janis Joplin (The Typewriter Tapes), avant d'être engagé par Paul Kantner au sein du Jefferson Airplane.
