This 1991 recording features magnificent ensemble playing with two jazz greats backed by a drummer and bass. The playing is superb as you would expect from two well established jazz stars. Additionally, the recording by Orin Keepnews, long time jazz recordist/producer, is exceptionally good with great soundstage featuring cymbles that shimmer and snap as if in front of your face. This release is another testimony why Tommy Flanagan is one of jazz's great piano players. His tone, pacing and playing can only be described as elegant, tasteful, and lovely. This is beautiful-fireplace-put-up-your-feet-open-a-bottle-of-wine music. Tasteful and beautiful, a treat for the senses. - Amazon

Beautiful late Blue Note work from Bobby Hutcherson – laidback, warm, electric, and with a mixture of CTI funk and some of the more lyrical soul jazz work of his years with Harold Land! Part of the credit for the set should go to George Cables – who plays both acoustic and electric keys on the record, and who gives the album a sweetly dancing feel that really warms things up wonderfully – and all other players are wonderful too, including drummer Eddie Marshall, bassist James Leary, and horn players Freddie Hubbard, Hadley Caliman, and Manny Boyd. Includes a great remake of "Little B's Poem", the mellow groover "Why Not", and the cuts "Til Then", "Knucklebean", and "So Far So Good".

Recorded a year before San Francisco's legendary club Keystone Korner (which was open for 11 years) closed, this live set features tenor-saxophonist Harold Land with vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson (who co-led a group with him in the 1970's) and trumpeter Oscar Brashear (who has often teamed up with Land during the past 15 years). With pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Buster Williams and drummer Billy Higgins completing the sextet, it is not surprising that the music is hard bop-oriented and of consistent high quality.

Hutcherson was one of that Los Angeles crew, like Eric Dolphy. His sister was dating Dolphy, and Hutcherson, of course, appeared on that master work Out To Lunch. His first recording date, however, was with Curtis Amy.
"The same personnel who performed on Grant Green's classic Idle Moments session in November 1963 reconvened for Bobby Hutcherson's first recording as a leader one month later. The Kicker, however, was never released and waited more than 35 years to see the light of day. Thanks to reissue king Michael Cuscuna, we are now finally able to hear this swinging disc and marvel at yet another example of Hutcherson's brilliance. Although this session is a bit more conservative than Dialogue, Hutcherson's original released debut, this is an exquisite capsule of the Blue Note era and a crisp performance by all. Many of the tunes here have been recorded in various forms by other Blue Note artists, but this ensemble gives each cut its own distinctive treatment. Joe Henderson's title track and "Step Lightly" are excellent examples of familiar tunes that are given a new flavor by this long-buried treasure of a disc. Also included is an energetic reading of the standard "If Ever I Would Leave You" and Joe Chamber's "Mirrors," both of which feature remarkable work by Hutcherson in his early development."

The recording is centered mostly around cutting edge originals by Hobbs encompassing modern mainstream examples of post bop, Latin, Funk, Calypso, and more….arranged and performed with the typical creative and hard edged energy you are used to hearing on his past New York Recordings. Hobbs centered the music around marimba, dedicating the recording to his mentor and late friend Bobby Hutcherson.

"Destination… Out!" is one of saxophonist Jackie McLean's best album, full of complexity that demonstrates the his ability as a writer, arranger, and instrumentalist. Together with its predecessor, "One Step Beyond", this 1963 session is considered one of Jackie McLean's best, to a great extent due to the stellar quintet members joining him. Trombonist Grachan Moncur III and vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson both played on "One Step Beyond", their musical chemistry with McLean so strong he invited them back for this album. The quintet is rounded out by Larry Ridley on bass and drummer Roy Haynes. Moncur III also contributes three out of the four songs here while McLean wrote the fourth, "Kahlil The Prophet".

"Street Of Dreams" is Grant Green’s classic. It features fellow virtuosos Bobby Hutcherson, Larry Young and Elvin Jones. The album explores the exhilarating standards “I Wish You Love”, “Lazy Afternoon”, “Street Of Dreams” and “Somewhere In The Night”. "Street Of Dreams" features the band’s uncanny chemistry and delicate nuances. Absolutely essential.
