This collection presents all of the music originally issued from Chet Baker’s studio sessions made for the Barclay label during his first European tour in 1955 and 1956, which was initially presented on three LPs. Most of these sessions are in a quartet or a quintet format. The very first two feature the splendid pianist Dick Twardzik, who would die in Paris from a drug overdose soon after the recordings were made. Also featured on this set are Bobby Jaspar, René Urtreger, Francy Boland & Jean-Louis Viale, among others.

Chesney Henry "Chet" Baker Jr. (December 23, 1929 – May 13, 1988) was an American jazz trumpeter and vocalist. He is known for major innovations in cool jazz that led him to be nicknamed the "Prince of Cool".

This session was recorded on Monday, October 24, 1955, between 14 and 21 o'clock at the Pathe-Maggellan studio in Paris. On October 24, only Jimmy Bond was still with Chet: Peter Littman had returned to America and his place was now taken by Nils-Bertil 'Bert' Dahlander, a Swedish drummer who had accompanied Lars Gullin.
