Reissue with the latest DSD remastering. With Art Farmer's phenomenal output of recordings as a leader during his long career, it isn't surprising to run across obscure gems such as this pair of 1975 studio sessions recorded in New York for release in Japan by Eastwind. Joined by frequent collaborator Cedar Walton on piano, as well as bassist Sam Jones and drummer Billy Higgins, the mellow flugelhornist excels on the ballads that make up the majority of the album.

It takes an aircraft-carrier of a release such as Live at the Beacon Theatre to remind us just how unique the Allman Brothers Band always was and still is. Traditionally a byword for down-home R&B/country blues-rock, the reality is that the band's gigantic sound is almost a musical form in itself. Make no mistake, the Allmans are still making big music, now with a two-guitar front line as well as their trademark two-drummer rhythm section (augmented these days with an additional percussionist), plus Gregg Allman's Hammond cutting through all of this like a serrated knife.

This set presents five complete albums from the initial years of Lalo Schifrin's career as a leader: "Lalo=Brilliance: The Piano of Lalo Schifrin" (Roulette SR 52088); "Bossa Nova: New Brazilian Jazz (Audio Fidelity AFLP-1981)"; "Insensatez [aka Piano, Strings & Bossa Nova] (MGM SE-4110); "Piano Español: The Magic Touch of Lalo Schifrin, His Piano & Orchestra" (Tico LP-1070), and "Rendez-Vous Dansant a Copacabana" (Vogue LD-236). Born in Argentina, Schifrin was gaining fame as a member and arranger of Dizzy Gillespie's Quintet and Big Band during these formative years. He is backed on these albums by such important guitarists as Jim Hall and Jimmy Raney, plus the brilliant saxophonist Leo Wright from Gillespie's formation.
