It is easier to define Dionne Warwick by what she isn't rather than what she is. Although she grew up singing in church, she is not a gospel singer. Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan are clear influences, but she is not a jazz singer. R&B is also part of her background, but she is not really a soul singer, either, at least not in the sense that Aretha Franklin is…

Jeff Lynne reportedly regards this album and its follow-up, Out of the Blue, as the high points in the band's history. One might be better off opting for A New World Record over its successor, however, as a more modest-sized creation chock full of superb songs that are produced even better. Opening with the opulently orchestrated "Tightrope," which heralds the perfect production found throughout this album, A New World Record contains seven of the best songs ever to come out of the group. The Beatles influence is present, to be sure, but developed to a very high degree of sophistication and on Lynne's own terms, rather than being imitative of specific songs.

Dancin' With Nobody But You Babe is the 1969 debut album by singer/songwriter Clarence Reid. Reid wrote or co-wrote tons of pop and soul/R&B songs in the 1970's, including Betty Wright's "Clean Up Woman" and "Let Me Be Your Lovemaker", Vicki Anderson's "Don't Throw Your Love In The Garbage Can", and Gwen McCrae's "Rockin' Chair" but for some audiences, he is infamously known as the horny and filthy costumed singer known as Blowfly. Before he became known as Blowfly, he was signed to Atco Records in an attempt to be a popular soul vocalist. It failed, and chose to do things in the background, both as a songwriter and as the pussy loving superhero. This album shows slight hints of the humor he already had, especially the album closer, "Send Me Back My Money." It also includes a tasteful cover of The Beatles' "Get Back", for Reid knew the advantages of covering a fab four song and publishing. This CD was released in Japan on 27 October, 1999 on East West/Atlantic.

The Jazz Makers: Art Ellefson (tenor saxophone), Ronnie Ross (alto and baritone saxophones), Stan Jones (piano), Stan Wasser (bass), Allan Ganley (drums) recorded in New York, September 23, 1959. What ever happened to The Jazz Makers? In 1959, the British jazz quintet The Jazz Makers came second in the British Melody Maker journal reader’s poll small jazz combo section, beating even the Tubby Hayes and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Couriers. They first established a US presence in 1958, appearing at the Newport Jazz Festival, and subsequently touring on the same bill as Thelonious Monk, where they caught the ear of Atlantic boss Nesuhi Ertegan. He brought them into a New York studio to record this album, The Swinging Sounds of The Jazz Makers, Atlantic 1333. Ronnie Ross went on to receive a Downbeat magazine New Star award.

Johnny Winter has done and seen just about everything. One thing he had yet to do was play in Japan. This is one of the few places that his touring hadn't taken him, until now. This show was recorded on April 15, 2011, the third night of three sold out shows, at the famed Zepp Tokyo Music Hall in the heart of the world's largest city. The songs Johnny played during his stellar set are soaked with more blues riffs in this one night than most guitar players can match in their career. If you listen closely you can hear the likes of Robert Johnson, BB King, T-Bone Walker, Chuck Berry, Elmore James, Muddy Waters, Jimi Hendrix and even The Beatles.

"Rock Of The Westies" is the 10th studio album by English musician Elton John, released in October 1975. As with "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy", "Rock Of The Westies" debuted on the US Billboard 200 chart at #1, the only two albums at that time to have done so. It was also successful (albeit to a lesser extent) in the artist's home territory of the UK, where it reached #5 on the UK Albums Chart. Robert Christgau ranked it as #7 on his list of the best albums of 1975. The title is a play on the phrase "West of the Rockies", the album having been recorded at Caribou Ranch in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

The Bee Gees were a pop music band formed in 1958. The band's line-up consisted of brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. The trio were successful for most of their decades of recording music, but they had two distinct periods of exceptional success: as a popular music act in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and as prominent performers of the disco music era in the late 1970s. The group sang recognisable three-part tight harmonies; Robin's clear vibrato lead vocals were a hallmark of their earlier hits, while Barry's R&B falsetto became their signature sound during the late 1970s and 1980s. They wrote all of their own hits, as well as writing and producing several major hits for other artists.

Time is the ninth studio album by English rock band Electric Light Orchestra. It topped the UK Albums Chart for two weeks. Time is a concept album written about a man from the 1980s who is taken to the year 2095, where he is confronted by the dichotomy between technological advancement and a longing for past romance. Time is a work of synth-pop that combines elements from 1950s music, new wave, reggae, rockabilly, the Beatles, Phil Spector and the Shadows. The album signalled a departure from the band's sound by emphasising electronics over its usual orchestra.

This is the album where Jeff Lynne finally found the sound he'd wanted since co-founding Electric Light Orchestra three years earlier. Up to this point, most of the group's music had been self-contained – Lynne, Richard Tandy, et al., providing whatever was needed, vocally or instrumentally, even if it meant overdubbing their work layer upon layer. Lynne saw the limitations of this process, however, and opted for the presence of an orchestra – it was only 30 pieces, but the result was a much richer musical palette than the group had ever had to work with, and their most ambitious and successful record up to that time.
