Deutsche Grammophon celebrates the 100th Birthday of the 'Troubadour of the Keyboard', Géza Anda, in a limited edition 17-CD set. It includes the first CD release of rare shellack recordings of music by Bach/Busoni, Scarlatti and Brahms, and is presented with original sleeves, a 48 page booklet with new liner notes (English/German) by Anda expert Wolfgang Rathert, and recordings with conductors Ferenc Fricsay, Herbert von Karajan, Rafel Kubelik, and Eduard van Beinum. Anda was for the most part of his sadly too-short career a Deutsche Grammophon artist. The albums, which are not currently in the Digital Supply Chain, will be delivered as individual eAlbums with the artwork from the Complete edition.

Wilhelm Kempff's cycle of the Beethoven Piano Concertos with Ferdinand Leitner and the Berlin Philharmonic is one of the great achievements of the golden age of stereo. Kempff had already recorded a magnificent mono cycle in the mid-1950s with the same orchestra under Paul Van Kempen (recently reissued on the box set "Wilhelm Kempff: The Complete 1950s Concerto Recordings" in DG's Original Masters series – see my review), but these new performances maintained his highest playing standards while offering the added dimension of stereo sound.

Annie Fischer (1914-1995), a pupil of Ernst von Dohnányi later went on to make some legendary recordings with Otto Klemperer. Friedrich Gulda (1930-2000) polarized the music scene by embracing the parallel worlds of classical music and jazz in equal measure. He was not only one of the most brilliant pianists of the 20th century with regard to tone and technique, but also one of the wittiest and most musically competent. For decades Wilhelm Kempff (1895-1991) was seen as the leading interpreter of German music from Beethoven and Schubert through Schumann and Liszt to Brahms.
