Former Madness singer Suggs McPherson had toyed with various re-formations of that hugely successful UK pop band before launching his solo career in 1995. The success of the band’s ‘Madstock’ shows in Finsbury Park, London, in 1993, had reawakened public affection for the engaging singer. Suggs explained the delay thus: ‘When I left Madness, I didn’t want to stay in the music industry as a performer.’ Instead he managed the Farm, co-producing their first album, and worked on his own show on satellite television (the ill-fated BSB). He began to write his own songs again in 1991, with the co-operation of former Madness colleague Mike Barson. When he decided to undertake a belated solo career in 1994 he found a willing aid in the shape of Warner Music chairman Rob Dickins, who had arranged Madness’ publishing and originally lent the band the £200 necessary to record their first single, ‘The Prince’.

Passionate about music from an early age, he starts the sax in an original way. This brilliant instrument was placed on his desk, like a treasure full of gold coins. Professional since 1994 (at 20 years) he recorded three solo albums but 35 as a guest. He also arranges and writes parts of brass for singers or singers. Julien Petit is also a complete artist who plays comedy, dances and makes his show with the big company "Precious Diamond". Fronted by legendary saxophonist Tommy McCook, the Skatalites also comprised a veritable who’s who of Kingston-based performers, their number including trombonist Don Drummond, tenor saxman Roland Alphonso, drumming supremo Lloyd Knibb and keyboard prodigy Jackie Mittoo. Following their creation in the summer of ’64, this powerhouse instrumental combo dominated the island’s music industry for 18 glorious months, the very best of their work produced by famed Treasure Isle Records boss, Arthur ‘Duke’ Reid. Since the Ska revival of the late '70s, this up-tempo, dance-friendly music has remained in vogue the world over, with each new generation spawning new fans of the genre. Yet for all it's popularity, many of the original Jamaican Ska recordings from the early to mid '60s have continued to remain unavailable.
