Bifurcations and Catastrophes: Geometry of Solutions to Nonlinear Problems by Michel Demazure
English | PDF (True) | 2000 | 304 Pages | ISBN : 3540521186 | 38.1 MB

Based on a lecture course at the Ecole Polytechnique (Paris), this text gives a rigorous introduction to many of the key ideas in nonlinear analysis, dynamical systems and bifurcation theory including catastrophe theory. Wherever appropriate it emphasizes a geometrical or coordinate-free approach which allows a clear focus on the essential mathematical structures. Taking a unified view, it brings out features common to different branches of the subject while giving ample references for more advanced or technical developments.

Bifurcations in Hamiltonian Systems: Computing Singularities by Gröbner Bases by Henk Broer

The authors consider applications of singularity theory and computer algebra to bifurcations of Hamiltonian dynamical systems. They restrict themselves to the case were the following simplification is possible. Near the equilibrium or (quasi-) periodic solution under consideration the linear part allows approximation by a normalized Hamiltonian system with a torus symmetry. It is assumed that reduction by this symmetry leads to a system with one degree of freedom. The volume focuses on two such reduction methods, the planar reduction (or polar coordinates) method and the reduction by the energy momentum mapping.
Bifurcations in Flow Patterns: Some Applications of the Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations in Fluid Dynamics

Bifurcations in Flow Patterns: Some Applications of the Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations in Fluid Dynamics by P. G. Bakker
English | PDF | 1991 | 221 Pages | ISBN : 940105553X | 12.8 MB

The main idea of the present study is to demonstrate that the qualitative theory of diffe rential equations, when applied to problems in fluid-and gasdynamics, will contribute to the understanding of qualitative aspects of fluid flows, in particular those concerned with geometrical properties of flow fields such as shape and stability of its streamline patterns. It is obvious that insight into the qualitative structure of flow fields is of great importance and appears as an ultimate aim of flow research.

Nonlinear Oligopolies: Stability and Bifurcations by Gian Italo Bischi
English | PDF | 2010 | 340 Pages | ISBN : 3642021050 | 7.75 MB

The book focuses on the dynamics of nonlinear oligopoly models. It discusses the classical Cournot model with a large variety of demand and cost functions that illustrate the many different types of possible best response functions and it shows the existence of unique and multiple equilibria. Particular emphasis is placed on the influence of nonnegativity and capacity constraints. Dynamics are introduced under various assumptions for the adjustment process.

Real-world systems that involve some non-smooth change are often well-modeled by piecewise-smooth systems. However there still remain many gaps in the mathematical theory of such systems.
