2016 album from the acclaimed progressive rock band. Big Big Train return with Folklore, their ¬ first full-length studio album since the award winning English Electric. Folklore contains nine new songs with a total running time of 68 minutes. Despite the album title, Folklore is by no means a collection of traditional-sounding folk music pieces. On Folklore, Big Big Train are reimagining and breathing new life into traditional themes, and also creating a few new ones along the way.
Five-time PROG magazine award winning BIG BIG TRAIN are proud to announce the release of EMPIRE! Empire is a Blu-ray/2CD digipack release with a 16-page booklet, which captures the final show of Big Big Train's autumn 2019 UK tour. Recorded at the Hackney Empire in London, the twelve song set runs to almost 115 minutes and features the full Big Big Train live band plus the five-piece brass section. The show includes material from The Underfall Yard, English Electric, Folklore, Grimspound and Grand Tour studio albums.
2017 holiday single from the three-time Progressive Music Award winning band. The single is called 'Merry Christmas' and features a b-side called Snowfalls. Big Big Train vocalist David Longdon says: 'Merry Christmas is a song about rediscovering our childlike belief in the magic of Christmas, despite living in an over commercial and sometimes cynical world. After all, what wouldn't you give to believe again, like you believed back then?' Bass player Greg Spawton: 'We wanted Merry Christmas to be a proper Christmas song, so it features the Big Big Train brass band, The Chapel Choir Choristers of Jesus College, Cambridge and, of course, sleigh bells.'
Welcome to the Planet is the next studio album by Big Big Train and comes six months after the release of the band’s critically acclaimed top 40 album ‘Common Ground.
The album was recorded at the three-time Prog Award winners's shows at London's Cadogan Hall last year and will be released as a triple vinyl box set and as a two CD digipack. Download and streaming versions will also be available. The album includes the best performance of each song played at the band's sold out Cadogan Hall, London shows which took place in the autumn last year. Big Big Train have revisited the sound world of early Genesis and Yes and have managed to create music with great emotional clout. They make beautiful, pastoral quintessentially English music: their name is Big Big Train. Beautifully understated yet consistently enthralling, Big Big Train wield pathos and poignancy with elegance and relish, amidst a musical backdrop that is as vivid as it is finessed.
With the band currently in the early stages of working on a new studio album for release in 2024, Ingenious Devices features new versions of a trilogy of revered Big Big Train epic tracks - 'East Coast Racer', 'Brooklands' and 'Voyager' - about how mankind has used it's ingenuity to extend it's reach by the development and deployment of technology. The new versions feature an elite 17 piece string section recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London. Apart from the late David Longdon's lead vocals, which have been compiled from the original album sessions, East Coast Racer is a completely new studio version recorded by the line-up of the band as it was in 2019. 'Brooklands' features newly recorded drums, bass and bass pedals, while 'Voyager' includes additional guitar and violin. All three songs have been re-mixed for this release. Ingenious Devices also includes a previously unreleased orchestral piece called The Book of Ingenious Devices, which links East Coast Racer and Brooklands.
