Bill Evans and Tiki Parlour Recordings have collaborated on the ultimate banjo recording set (CD & DVD Set) for the 21st century. Bill Evans’ “The Banjo in America” celebrates 250 years of music performed on a variety of banjos from the Haitian-inspired banza to the Gibson Mastertone and eight other historical instruments in between.

The Bride, a former professional assassin and pregnant, is shot and left for dead at her wedding, by none other than her former boss Bill. She wakes up from a coma after five years, without her baby, and sets out for revenge. After regaining strength and aquiring deadly weapons, she tracks down Bill's accomplices, at the same time her follow colleagues, and kills them one after another. Among them are O-Ren, who in the mean time became the head of the Yakuza, Vernita Green, who is now a housewife, and Budd, Bill's brother, who lives a shitty life in a trailer home. Not until the very end, does she get to face her nemesis, to take revenge for all that he has done to her, only to find out about a surprising truth. But she will Kill Bill.

William John Evans (August 16, 1929 – September 15, 1980) was an American jazz pianist and composer who mostly played in trios. His use of impressionist harmony, inventive interpretation of traditional jazz repertoire, block chords, and trademark rhythmically independent, "singing" melodic lines continues to influence jazz pianists today.

Out on parole after 8 years inside Bill Hayward returns home to find his now 11 and 15 year old sons abandoned by their mother and fending for themselves. Unwilling to play Dad, an uncaring Bill is determined to move on. Although Dean the older boy has found a job and is doing his best to be a father to his younger brother Jimmy, the arrival of Bill has brought them to the attention of social services. With the danger of being put into care looming, Dean forces his feckless Dad to stay by threatening to grass him up for dealing. If there's one thing Bill doesn't want it's to go back to prison. He reluctantly agrees to stay for a week o help fool social services that the boys are being cared for. Having never really grown up himself Bill quickly connects with Jimmy and through this new bond starts to realize what he's been missing. He has a family, a place in the world…

In the mid-1970s, trombonist Bill Watrous led a couple of notable big band albums for Columbia. Since relocating to the Los Angeles area in the '80s, Watrous has put together jazz orchestras on a part-time basis to play at local clubs. Finally, in 1997, a recording was released by the more recent version of the Bill Watrous Big Band. Featuring arrangements by Tom Kubis, Shelly Berg, Gordon Goodwin, Ken Kaplan and Frank Perowsky, the Double-Time set is largely straight-ahead but not exactly predictable. Most of the eight selections have their complex sections, but always swing.The music is as rewarding as one would expect, considering the caliber of these players, and is easily recommended to modern big-band fans. — Scott Yanow
