This recording is the trunk of the tree jazz rock grew from(the "non-fusion" jazzrock). Al Kooper's vision was "right on it", as he had the notion to utilize horns in rockmusics with a "big band" concept in mind, wonderful expansive chords voiced by the section, not just the usual R&B riffing that was the state of things in pop musics until then.

Mirror Image was released in the wake of vocalist David Clayton-Thomas' departure and features three different vocalists. Colomby hand picked the greatest players and Vocalist of which many have gone on to be legends themselves, Randy Brecker, Mike Stern, Jaco Pastorius Lew Soloff, and so many more. Throughout the years fans have come to love their favorite version of BS&T. Every version of the band has left it’s mark on the music world. The most commercially successful version was the second generation Band.
