Bloodline 2008

Collection includes 5 albums and 7 singles by Recoil. Recoil is a musical project created by former Depeche Mode member Alan Wilder. Essentially a solo venture, Recoil began whilst Wilder was still in Depeche Mode as an outlet for his experimental, less pop-oriented compositions. Once he announced his departure from the group in 1995, Recoil was transformed from a small side-project into Wilder's primary musical enterprise.

No matter how you look at it, there is no one who only thinks of the West Coast as "white people," "blue California skies," "bright and refreshing," and "smooth jazz." California has always been the holy land of black music, and has also given birth to an incredible number of African-American jazz musicians. Nat King Cole, Lionel Hampton, Benny Carter, Charles Mingus, Chico Hamilton, Eric Dolphy, Les McCann, Roy Ayers… The protagonist of this album, tenor saxophonist Kamasi Washington, is also one of those who inherited the "bloodline of LA black musicians." Currently, he plays traditional jazz with the prestigious Gerald Wilson Orchestra, while exploring more contemporary sound creation with his own group, "The Next Step." By the Sword takes up the adventures of Repairman Jack directly after Bloodline. Jack is hired to find a legendary Japanese sword, a katana stolen from the Hiroshima Peace Museum and brought to New York City. Central characters include the members of a weird Japanese cult, a young Japanese businessman and his three Yakuza bodyguards, plus Hank Thompson, the Kicker cult leader from Bloodline. The cult, the businessman, the Yakuza, and the Kickers are looking for the sword as well.
