Antonio Pappano and the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden are presenting a symphonic work with particular relevance for Dresden: Rachmaninoff‘s Symphony No. 2, which was written during the composer‘s years at the Saxon residency. The Petersburg premiere of Rachmaninoff’s 1st Symphony became a fiasco. This rejection, by the public and the critics, plunged the composer into a creative crisis. In 1906, Rachmaninoff moved to Dresden and composed his successful and highly dramatic Second Symphony. Included on this DVD are the full concert performance with Maestro Pappano and Sächsische Staatskapelle and the documentary Sergei Rachmaninoff in Dresden. It is the first time that Sächsische Staatskapelle performed Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No 2 under the baton of Antonio Pappano. The documentary includes extensive archive material, photos, scores and posters from Dresden in the years between 1906 and 1920.

Carly Simon: No Secrets is presented on audio Blu-ray courtesy of Rhino Music, and while there is an AVC encoded 1:78:1 "image", this is another Rhino release that features a static menu. All of the simultaneously released Atmos / Quad offerings from Rhino this time have the same conceit of having the track playing in one color, with another color showing up if you use your arrow buttons to move down through the track list. In this case, the track playing highlights in blue, and if you use your arrow buttons to move through the track, the titles turn black as you move down the list (until one is chosen, at which point it changes to blue), but otherwise there are no "moving parts". (I might just slightly joke that this "black and blue" approach may recall another kind of edgy Simon tune, "After the Storm", which alludes to some perhaps questionable violence in a relationship.) While that part of the disc authoring between the four simultaneous releases is consistent, unfortunately toggling between codecs isn't among this quartet.

The famous concert movie by rock band Talking Heads, filmed over four nights in 1983 at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood. The sight of David Byrne wearing a comically oversized white suit in Stop Making Sense has become so iconic that some people who haven't seen this concert film mistakenly believe the Talking Heads frontman is clad that way for the entire performance (he isn't). But the image of Byrne garbed that way has also so matriculated into the general cultural zeitgeist that none other than Nicolas Cage dons a similar outfit (albeit gray this time) in the gonzo finale of Dream Scenario, a film which perhaps not so coincidentally was, like this latest release of this film, put out by those weird and wacky folks at A24.

The Blu-ray contains the album in hi-res, jam sessions and early versions of the album tracks, a "This Strange Engine" documentary, a "Live In Utrecht" bootleg concert recording and promo videos from the time of the album's release.
