The Kerrville folk festival began as a 3-hour indoor concert June 1-3, 1972 in the Kerrville Municipal Auditorium, with a total attendance of 2800. The next year, midnight concerts were added on two of the days, with the attendance doubling. By 1974, the festival had grown to the point that it was moved outdoors to what is now known as the Quiet Valley Ranch. The Kerrville Folk Festival has steadily grown through the years and has expanded to an 18-day event with attendance in the 30,000 range. Given its longevity and popularity, it is a real treat that a portion of its musical heritage has been preserved in this box set. The Early Years: Kerrville Folk Festival 1972-1981 is a 10-CD limited edition box set (only 500 were pressed), with one disc each for the ten years covered. 140 songs total by 90 artists, it contains some instantly recognizable names - like Willie Nelson, Townes Van Zandt and Nanci Griffith, just to name a few - as well as artists you may never have heard of, and they all turn in stellar performances.

While the blues is a distinctly American creation, formed, fueled, and furthered by the African diaspora, the United States holds no ownership on blue-streaked sounds. They exist beyond our borders, and Azul Infinito makes that case in artful fashion by simultaneously tapping into various South American musical forms and cultures, reshaping them, and highlighting the color scheme(s) endemic to each one. It's a strikingly original album that's influenced by the work of specific figures and set cultural norms, but shaped by the creative spirit of a true original—trombonist Ryan Keberle.

It’s only been a few short weeks since we introduced Emmylou Harris’s 70’s Studio Album Collection and 80’s Studio Album Collection to our digital catalog, but now it’s time to bring something from Ms. Harris’s catalog to CD…or, more specifically, to bring it back to CD. In 2007, we put out a pretty cool Emmylou Harris box set entitled Songbird: Rare Tracks & Forgotten Gems, one which featured 78 tracks, all hand-chosen by the singer-songwriter herself. At the time of its initial release, Emmylou said of its contents, "I've selected not greatest hits but personal favorites that – with a few exceptions – have never appeared on any other compilations, but were important gems in the string of pearls that each album strives to become.” In addition, the set also included a handful of contributions she’d made to different tribute albums, various and sundry live and demo tracks, and a few collaborations.
