The album was recorded in Nashville and Detroit and produced by Seger himself. A cover version of Lou Reed's "Busload of Faith" was released as the first single taken from the album. The song was originally released by Reed on his 1989 album New York. Besides Reed's "Busload of Faith," Seger included another cover song in the album, namely "Democracy," which was written by Leonard Cohen and originally released on his 1992 album The Future. A number of Seger's own compositions for the album were written and originally recorded many years or even decades ago but remained unreleased at the time.

The best introduction to this artist would be Coop! The Music of Bob Cooper, released in 1958 by Contemporary Records. Initially known as an exponent of the Stan Kenton Orchestra, he branched out and spent four decades as an all-purpose session man, serving in the reed sections of multiple studio orchestras while maintaining a steady presence on the cool, bop-inflected West Coast mainstream jazz scene.

This 2 CD box set is packed with some pretty rare blues sides, most from the 1950's era, with the rest from the 60's. This set focuses mainly on 45 RPM singles pressed on small labels because they're so powerful and exciting sounding, as opposed to a full LP. This is the down and dirty sounding electric blues from mostly lesser/unknown singer/guitarists balanced by tracks from a few well known performers as well..
