Angst and anarchy fuelled indie, and it soon rose from its underground beginnings, to find global success with the likes of the The Stone Roses’ ‘Fools Gold’ and Happy Mondays’ ‘Step On’. Indie reached dizzying heights during the ‘90s when Britpop took over the official UK charts - allowing Mancunian band, Oasis to rise to the fore with indie anthems such as ‘Supersonic’. The noughties were a time of renaissance, with the rise of transatlantic super-groups such as The Killers and The White Stripes, which paved the way for the noughties’ nu-wave of revolutionary indie bands such as Mumford and Sons, Kasabian, The 1975, The Libertines, Bastille and Razorlight.
