Queen were straining at the boundaries of hard rock and heavy metal on Sheer Heart Attack, but they broke down all the barricades on A Night at the Opera, a self-consciously ridiculous and overblown hard rock masterpiece. Using the multi-layered guitars of its predecessor as a foundation, A Night at the Opera encompasses metal ("Death on Two Legs," "Sweet Lady"), pop (the lovely, shimmering "You're My Best Friend"), campy British music hall ("Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon," "Seaside Rendezvous"), and mystical prog rock ("'39," "The Prophet's Song"), eventually bringing it all together on the pseudo-operatic "Bohemian Rhapsody."

Essentially, this 17-track album is a second-volume Queen's Greatest Hits, picking up the story from that album's 1981 release and taking it to the end of Queen's career. But the album also contains a few tracks - "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Keep Yourself Alive," and "Under Pressure" - that appeared on that first set, as well as a couple - "Stone Cold Crazy" and "Tie Your Mother Down" - from the same era. The remaining 12 tracks, culled from The Works, A Kind of Magic, The Miracle, and Innuendo, represent songs that were not big hits in the U.S. Nevertheless, with a resurgence of interest in Queen and the second coming of "Bohemian Rhapsody," courtesy of Wayne's World, this album returned Queen to platinum status and the U.S. Top Five for the first time since the early '80s.

Spanning Queen's triumphant first act, from 1974 to 1980, 'Greatest Hits' includes some of the world's most beloved rock standards, including the stadium-sized symphonic chart-topper 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and the roof-raising 'We Are the Champions', which was named the most catchy song of all time by a team of scientists in 2011. The album also dazzles with its stylistically diverse range, from the crowd-rousing 'We Will Rock You', the tongue-in-cheek 'Fat Bottomed Girls', the stomp-stomp-stomp late '70s disco inspired 'Another One Bites the Dust', to the finger-snapping jukebox retro-rock homage 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' and gospel-fired Aretha-isms of 'Somebody to Love'.

By 1979, Queen was considered among rock's elite class, and rightfully so. With a string of hit albums, singles, and sold-out tours to their credit, the group was about to enter a new musical phase of its career with 1980's mega-hit The Game…

The set presents a compilation of concert highlights captured the world over personally selected by Taylor, May and Lambert from over 200 shows they have performed with several featured here becoming available for the very first time. These cover concerts from Rock in Rio, Lisbon, to the UK’s Isle of Wight Festival, Summer Sonic, Japan, selected UK and North America tour dates, and - from one of their very last performances before lockdown – the Fire Fight Australia benefit show. All formats include the band’s entire 22-minute Fire Fight Australia appearance in which they performed Queen’s original history-making 1985 Live Aid set in full: Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Ga Ga, Hammer To Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, We Will Rock You and We are The Champions.
