Long unavailable, the only recording of a colourful oratorio by a leading Dutch composer of the 18th century.Joseph is not a Hendelian oratorio with a hero or heroine like Samson or Esther: the theme is envy and the forgiveness found through faith in God. The concision and compactness in De Fesch's concertos is also in evidence throughout Joseph. The piece ‘was purposefully crafted in a lighter style,’ according to its conductor, the flautist and founder of Musica ad Rhenum, Jed Wentz. ‘It is pure opera seria and not really a Handelian oratorio. It has an excellent, compact libretto, charming, virtuoso arias, and a minimum of choruses.’

'When Violent Hot Pitch Words Hurt' is Polly Paulusma's latest sister-album, the title an anagram of 'The Pivot On Which The World Turns', which was released in September via One Little Independent folk subsidiary Wild Sound. It is possibly her most vulnerable accompanying piece yet, revealing early demos, lyric changes, musical alterations, draftings, and even spoken-word origin poems that proceeded the songs.

Inspired by the amazing and nonetheless enigmatic universe of Bosch's "The Garden of Earthly Delights", the music on this album serves as an invitation for a journey. Shifting between simplicity and complexity, harmony and conflict, improvised Vs. composed music, inspired by Jazz and Contemporary music, the music flows between landscapes inspired by the famous tryptic.

When we last heard from Guided By Voices, they had released an astonishing four albums in just over 12 months. Each has a distinctive creative identity: Zeppelin Over China was a meat-and-potatoes double album, Warp And Woof was a return to the band’s low-fidelity roots and under-two-minute earworms, Sweating The Plague was a slice of moody stadium rock, and Surrender Your Poppy Field was an unpredictable grab-bag of all of the above. After venturing through the tangled brambles of Plague and Poppy Field, here is a sunny summer reprieve, a relentless barrage of hooks—Mirrored Aztec is the latest stop on this runaway train.
