Brian Wilson Long Promised Road

Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road is a 2021 documentary film about the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson that was directed by Brent Wilson (no relation). It follows Brian and Rolling Stone editor Jason Fine as they drive around Los Angeles and visit locations from Brian's past. The title comes from "Long Promised Road", a song written by Brian's brother Carl Wilson and former band manager Jack Rieley, which figures heavily in the film.
In August 2021, Brent stated that there were tentative plans to release a soundtrack album containing never before released material. The soundtrack was officially announced on November 23 and released by Lakeshore Records on November 26.

Capitol Records/Universal Music will explore The Beach Boys‘ 1969-1971 period with a new archive release called Feel Flows – The Sunflower and Surf’s Up Sessions 1969-1971.

The contents of this release will be identical to the worldwide release, except for SHM-CD format and a description with Japanese translation. Features The Beach Boys' rare tracks from sessions recorded during productions of their albums "The Sunflower" and "Surf's Up Sessions" (1969-1971). Includes 108 unreleased tracks. Features remastering on the original album tracks.

Released in conjunction with the Beach Boys documentary Endless Harmony, this rarities collection contains previously unreleased Beach Boys songs, rehearsals, demos, alternate takes, and live performances. It certainly wasn't an album for casual fans, but Beach Boys obsessives found a treasure trove of stuff to drool over, including previously unheard Brian Wilson compositions like "Soulful Old Man Sunshine" and "Sail Plane Song," as well as a demo of "Heroes and Villains" on which Wilson abruptly shifts to snatches of material intended for the never-released Smile project. The later tracks on the album were given over to contributions from the other Beach Boys, and these included Mike Love's "Brian's Back" (from 1978 sessions for a solo album he never released) and two previously unheard Dennis Wilson songs, one of which was the lovely "Barbara."

Surf's Up is the 17th studio album by American rock band the Beach Boys, released in 1971. It was met with a warm critical reception and reached No. 29 on the US record charts, becoming their best-performing album in their home country since 1967. In the UK, the album peaked at No. 15, continuing a string of chart successes that had not abated since 1965. Both the album's title and cover artwork are an ironic, self-aware nod to the band's original surf music style.

Also premiering on Friday is the Disney+ original documentary The Beach Boys directed by Frank Marshall & Thom Zimny about the legendary band that revolutionized pop music, and the iconic sound they created that personified the California dream.
